I got my Chromecast Ultra for my 2018 C8 for $9 after the Spark $100 credit from Harvey Norman today. Went for the Ultra because of the hardwired network and it should also properly support 60 Hz.

Tested with several Spark Sport streams and it works well, and in my opinion with better quality than what you see from Sky.

I must congratulate Spark on doing the right thing here.

I went into Noel Leeming and got a Chromecast Ultra and paid the $10 difference, the rep had to look at the internal systems to find the spark sport resolution but was so easy.

Which Noel Leeming store did you go to?

Just FYI

The Spark Sport app seems to be live for LG 2019 TV's.

I don't know when it went live, but I just randomly checked the app store tonight and there it was (LG C9 OLED).

Yep - have had it on our C9 since about Thursday last week.

I bought my LG TV in late November 2018. Disappointed by this, to say the least. Spark's only saving grace is that I already own a Chromecast, so can still watch their service on my TV, just not the way I hoped I would. Were it not for that, I'd probably be cancelling my service with them.

The TV credit is only available to people who bought their LG TV after December 2018, however, I don't see why it matters when you bought your LG TV. It's a bit self-absorbed of Spark to suggest that people would buy TVs purely on the basis that they can use them to watch Spark Sport. To me, we're all in this as we all purchased our tournament pass AFTER they made the announcement they would be supporting LG TVs.

It's a nice gesture that Spark are offering some kind of credit to some, but to be honest it's a slap in the face for the rest of us affected, as we were just as screwed over.

Exactly what I have been saying above  - they didn’t keep their promise - but some people here just can’t see it.

As it happens, I later ended up getting a SS RWC Tournament Pass for free when I joined a Spark broadband arrangement - but that doesn’t change the principle of what has gone on here.

there's rumoured to be a new Apple TV announced next week. I wonder if this promo will cover those devices too?

Sounds like it’s just a chip upgrade from a10 to a12x

They made other support with the extra performance - hopefully it’s got an HDMI 2.1 port and can output 8k 60hz and 4k120hz should those content arrive - eARC support would be nice too.

Thanks for the confirmation eracode and Naekyr.  I am looking at purchasing the LG C9 in time for the Rugby World Cup, however, up until I read your posts, I was 99% sure SS and LG were not going to get their act together in time.  Have you tried streaming any ball sports like Rugby or Football via the App?  If so, how does it perform?  Any noticeable issues?

I've watched about 30 minutes of the live streamed stuff without any issue and watch a couple on demand rugby games without issue

I purchased the LG C9 TV yesterday after installing the SS App on the display model in JB Hi-Fi.  Until the app was installed, the JB Hi-Fi sales rep still believed a SS app was not available on LG TV's.  So a good news story.

Unfortunately, that's where the good news ends.  To set the scene...  I have a solid and very fast fibre connection at home.  I set up a wired connection to the new TV.

Upon setting up the TV at home, I installed the SS app and streamed some rugby and football.  The image quality was extremely poor.  Bad artefacts were seen around the players and ball throughout my tests.  I tried numerous different games from different periods of time ie 2011 world cup final, 2015 world cup final, 2019 world cup warm-up games etc.  I tried every image preset setting on the TV ie standard, cinema, cricket, game etc.  The image issues continued.

I'm extremely disappointed however I will call SS today to see what they say.  I'm not holding my breath.

Be interested to hear anyone else's experiences with the SS app on 2019 LG TV's or if anyone has any ideas as to why the performance is so bad.

Try watching the JPNvSA game from Friday night - that will be in their best quality (it was archived there after they changed back to 60fps and upped the bitrate).

On the AppleTV it is pretty much perfect. See how it goes on your LG.

SS RWC app works perfectly on our C9 - no issues at all.
