Who actually films all the matches in NZ? I thought it was Sky?

OSB which is contracted to Sky, but naturally works for anyone including TVNZ

Cyril

Slight correction, OSB is owned by Sky.

NEP is potentially an option, though I don't know if they have the scale to take on the cricket. Their parent company might stump up for more resources if there is a broadcast contract in it though.

Pragmatically if sky loses cricket what are the OBS staff cameraman going to do in summer..

If OBS is a separate entity surely they will look for contracts and will sign with spark if that's where the money is.

They wont say no to spite spark if they would otherwise not earning any money outside rugby season.

well if Sky own OSB then they will still make money on the Cricket and i would guess they will have Spark over a barrel in the negotiations as there cant be many other broadcast companies in NZ that can do what OSB can do.

Common sense is not as common as you think.

Sky has a shareholder meeting next week. The deal (presumably) can't be finalised until shareholders ratify it given it's size.

May well be, but if it's over the threshold, shareholders approval will be needed regardless.

400 Mill for 5 years. Thats a lot of rugby balls. How much cheaper could Sky Sport be if they opted out of rugby. Mathematically speaking, while rugby is a big sport here, its not a big sport here, think abut that. No.1 sport, so its big, but its still not that big viewers wise, plenty of Kiwis are not into it. It might be economically more sensible to be "lots of sport but no rugby, but much cheaper"

It is for the fans. 2018 school numbers show it's No.4, almost No.5, dropped 12%. Cant sight any overall fan numbers though.

Its only $10 million a year more than they paid 5 years ago. They put a 6 year sponsorship of Wellington Stadium in place earlier this year and spent $62 million buying rugbypass

Getting this over the line means sub numbers may increase via SSN and Rugbypass

Moving OT again, maybe a new topic in Sky forum is needed

Thanks, although that doesn't really answer the question of whether NEP has the scale necessary.

I wonder how many of the OSB crew are actually on staff though? It may be that they're largely contractors and will follow the work.
