Moderator, I may not be in the right group so feel free to move this

I live in a retirement village and from time to time I help other residents with their technology issues.
In this case a person has a 43inch Samsung Series 6 TV. It is connected to the internet via ethernet to a Spark Router.

Live TV is OK, but she cannot view programs on TVNZ+ and Three Now. In both cases the Menu screen comes up and she can select a show.
On TVNZ+ a spinning circle comes up and eventually it times out with error code 2003.
On Three Now it is similar, but doesn't give an error code.
Looking at the network the TV says it is connected to the internet.

I disconnected the power for both the TV and the router. No change on restarting
I reset the Samsung Care Hub which removes ALL the apps.
I reinstalled TVNZ+ and the issue persists. I haven't reinstalled Three Now yet
She can watch both on her iPad

Thoughts?

Thanks heaps

How old is the TV?

If the TV is too old then things like expired certificates, outdated apps could cause this.

Thanks

I Googled the issue for Three Now and it seems other people have the same issue with Three Now and TVNZ+

Just a wait and see I guess

Spyware:

Samsung "series 6", e.g., KU6000, is 2016.

I think these are old by now. I suspect the certificate autorithy is expired and no more updates for it.

We had a series 6.  The apps were old, most didn't work, and couldn't be updated.  I gave up and plugged an Apple TV into it. So much better with regular updates.

Support for 'smart' TV's doesn't last terribly long IME.

Currently $130-$135 at most places. Google has a remote finder feature and a built in ethernet port.

Amazon Firestick if you prefer to sell your soul to AWS and never lose your remote..

When I dumped the SkyPod I convinced myself that the saving could justify an Apple TV 4K. I'm not saying there's anything wrong with the cheaper options, but the Apple TV is soooo nice to use!  Plus it does Facetime, and it's Matter-enabled if that matters to you.

I have had the exact same issue brought to my attention by my brother-in-law.

He has a Samsung Frame TV 2021.

He took it into a repair place that was recommended to him by Samsung and they apparently replaced the "pcb and wlan" he said but he still has the problem. He had gone back to them and not got any further help so contacted me. He is going to go to them again.

I will be interested to follow this discussion to see if any resolution is found.

I am not sure I understand what needs to happen when there is an expired certificate. Who fixes this - is it Samsung, TVNZ+ or do you have to buy a new TV?

Given the Samsung Frame TV that I have been asked about is only 5 years old I hope it doesn't need to be a new TV.

I noted your reply on a login question for TVNZ+ that references their upcoming release of a new version of their app in mid to late April - is this going to resolve the expired certificate issue?

If the TV has an expired certificate (big IF) an app update wouldn't fix it. This would still be a firmware update.

Just buy any of the Dish Tv dongles with Freeview especially good for seniors as they have a dedicated button for linear (normal) TV.

https://www.warehousestationery.co.nz/product/W2735448.html?lang=default this is a good price and they also have a similar dongle for $78

Plug it in to an HDMI port on the TV, connect to wifi and it has its own dedicated remote with buttons for Freeview and Netflix etc. You can download the Three and TVNZ+ Apps from Google Play store plus many other apps to enjoy. Once set up it’s easy and makes the out of date TV smart again. The newer dongles practically  set themselves up. Just make sure you can access the HDMI port on your Frame.

My old defunct Samsung works great with the Dish TV.

Thanks Eva888

My brother in law had looked at doing something like this  so it is good to get your endorsement of this approach to solving the issue.
