Stand outside x store or x supermarket and run a quiz.

Nope, I rather doubt it. Was part the reason to allow scan to continue. Just noone bothering with level 1 change. 'we're sweet now right'

It's not the now. It's the 2 weeks time when one is found.

Arrgh, Covid Tracer logout again , though this time it will still allow scan, other functions locked, I wonder if there is any correlation between the sudden scan dropoff and people being logged out ? About a month since the big uptake ?

If they actually wanted people to use it, they should IMO offer cash prizes for using it, and gamify it.  It appears the MOH are now relying on peoples use of the app as a major part of their contact tracing system. But if only a certain percentage of people who can use it, are using it, then there are going to be holes in their data. I agree with the MOH that complacency is going to be a problem again,  and therefore we risk further lockdowns as a result. But IMO they could do something about this with new ideas about getting more people using it, such as gamification.

...they need to make it compulsory  :-)
No scan, no entry . Or if you cant scan (phone too old) , then compulsory fill out a form at the entrance .
Prizes & gamifying wont help, that certainly wouldnt encourage me to scan .

I knew QR scanning was a lost cause from day 1 , when my phone was deemed ~too old~ for the app .
I only scan sites where they make it complosory to enter . I use a QR/barcode reader app, not the official app.

This app is the right idea, the implementation was abysmal. Having said that as time has gone on they have slowly got things almost right. Pity it's taken so long.

I think a bit of engineering/design excellence getting in the way of producing a product that may not have quite met "worlds best practice" but was easily usable by the masses.

I've yet to encounter the 30 day issue as I haven't been using it long enough since it wouldn't work with my old phone. If that gets too hard then my continued use of the app may be in doubt.

I just sign in. What is the problem with that? We don't have to be so lame about it. We are trying to stop a pandemic that kills people.

Admittedly, the forms seem to have been designed by someone with bureaucracy on the brain. I just give my name and phone number and ignore the rest.

A generic QR scanner app does the job . That should have been made known as a 2nd option , for the tinfoil hat types and those with old phones .
Its a lost cause unless most people are scanning , but the vast majority dont , from what I see .

Wrong thread for this. There is a dedicated app thread.

But I don't see how you (or encouraging others) scanning a JSON encoded text string is going to help alert you to push notification movements, let alone where you were.

Someone with an old phone likely won't know what JSON is if you mentioned it, let alone decode one. Actually looked at the resulting text?

And before considering 'but google tells me where that scan was'. Tin foilers disable as much as that as possible too. And the others don't have a clue how to look it up.

The latest iteration has the opt-in details share. If you are alerted, they have your contact details at hand at a moments notice.

RSE & Agriculture workers the next tricky decision for border security.
https://www.rnz.co.nz/news/country/426717/still-not-enough-rse-workers-with-immigration-changes-fruit-picking-industry

Difficulties are compounded by quite large numbers ( normally 40-50K ! ) the Agriculture/Horticultural industries would like in total. We don't have isolation accommodation, nor systems to manage anywhere like that many, so it would be a new unproven system with new risks.

We do have locations like the near pacific islands that we might know much more about, however .
Locations like Vanuatu and Soloman Islands the situation maybe less clear with varying Government transparency and capability to pay for tests and PPE to monitor their own situation.

There are some highly skilled agriculture workers that earn well above minimums, too, but numbers are smaller.

Air Vanuatu recently come and recovered some stranded seasonal workers from lockdown period. And RNZAF returned a number.

Unfortunately seems a bit of a 1-way street currently. News other night indicated as a result Our Strawberries might be in trouble this year if they can't get people in to pick and keep demand. Similar with Tomatoes earlier in the year (seen the price recently..)

Press release:

There are two new cases of COVID-19 to report in New Zealand today.

Both are imported cases detected in a managed isolation facility.

One person arrived on a flight from Ukraine on 23 September via the United Arab Emirates.

The other person arrived in New Zealand on a flight from Pakistan via the United Arab Emirates on 23 September.   They were on the same flight but not travelling together.  Both individuals tested positive as a result of tests done around day three and have been transferred to the Auckland quarantine facility.

There are no new cases in the community.

There are 18 people isolating in the Auckland quarantine facility from the community, which includes 9 people who have tested positive for COVID-19 and their household contacts.

One person is in hospital with COVID-19 at Middlemore hospital. The patient is in isolation on a general ward.

Since August 11, our contact tracing team has identified 4,079 close contacts of cases, of which 4,079 have been contacted and are self-isolating or have completed self-isolation.

Our total number of active cases is 55; of those, 29 are imported cases in MIQ facilities, and 26 are community cases.

Our total number of confirmed cases of COVID-19 is 1,479, which is the number we report to the World Health Organization.

Yesterday our laboratories processed 3,636 tests, bringing the total number of tests completed to date to 955,590.

not sure whether to be disgusted or a little impressed about the guy who escaped from his 4th floor room by using sheets to scale down to the ground at the Ramada Hotel.

With 2 days left of the 14...

Must be some urges!

I understand he is being held again on the fourth floor but there's been someone stationed outside the window.

Abseil? Strong arm? :)
