SA gets tough - any future covid patients to be place in hospital under police guard.

No new cases yesterday (& likely no local cases in AU.  ACT, Tas, and WA still to report, but local cases in those areas unlikely)

Fred99:

NZ ranked first in the world for Covid resilience by Bloomberg

NZ a long way down on access to vaccines though!

Even more puzzling they have Taiwan and Singapore in the bottom rank for that category.

And oddities in the resilience rankings also (including Singapore below Japan, Finland, Norway, Denmark despite much higher case rates in those countries)

just look at recent history
the powerfull countries literally taking PPE gear ( stopped at the boarder ) that was destined to be sent to other countries

hands up who really think the US (and the Eu) will let vax's be exported en mass if needed urgently in their own country
As it is , we dont have the infrastructure for one of the vax's NZ bought into ( the required deep refridgeration)

Wife had another covid-19 test last Sunday, at the medical centre. Took Monday off work. Waited for the message with results all Tuesday and nothing. So another day off Tuesday and since no results by end of the day, another day off today (Wednesday). I told her 72 hours was long enough, so she called the medical centre.

The nurse said something on the lines of "Oh, you were waiting for the results to go back to work? You could call any time."

I thought they would send a SMS - like all the previous times myself, wife and daughter were tested.

Very annoying.

That is kind of unforgiveable at this stage.

This is very similar to what NZ does now with Jet Park.
Our headline could be - NZ locks up covid patients in isolation facility with army and police guards.

USA Today: Fauci says Santa Claus has 'innate immunity,' won't be spreading COVID-19 to anyone this Christmas

Santa Claus is coming to town. And he's not bringing COVID-19.

At least, that's the word from Dr. Anthony Fauci, the nation's leading infectious disease expert.

"Santa is exempt from this because Santa, of all the good qualities, has a lot of good innate immunity," Fauci told USA TODAY this week.

It should come as no surprise. As children already know, Santa is superhuman. He flies around the world in one night, delivers millions of toys and eats his weight in cookies.

But with millions of Americans already sick with COVID-19, children have been worried about Santa, especially this Christmas Eve when he visits millions of homes. And there's no denying that Santa, because he is older and overweight, would at first glance appear to be at higher risk of developing severe disease from COVID-19.

Santa should get vaccinated with the highest priority at all! ;-)

I'm waiting for the government to put out a special directive that Santa doesn't have to spend 14 days in MIQ...

Just wait I'm sure there will be one eventually

This is nonsense. I can't believe that Fauci would say that. My respect for him just took a tumble.

The reality is that Santa is ideally placed to be a super-spreader... multiple close contacts, and played by poor people who cannot afford time off work so are somewhat likely to work while symptomatic.

SMH!

I think Fauci was referring to the actual "jolly fat guy"  who delivers gifts down your chimney  :)

As opposed to the multitudes of scrawny gig-workers taking orders at malls ....

I was wondering if I should post this, but the voices in my head told me to.

WKRN TV news, Tennessee state: Tennessee mayor waits on Holy Spirit’s guidance before ordering mask mandate

As health experts warn about a holiday surge in coronavirus cases, a Tennessee mayor said he is holding off on ordering a mask mandate until the Holy Spirit guides him to do so.

“I do believe masking helps prevent the spread of it, but I don’t feel I should mandate people wearing masks at this time,” Lincoln County Mayor Bill Newman said. “The Holy Spirit dwells within us. When I pray for guidance, I may not know the answer immediately.”

The county of 34,000 residents has reported more than 1,300 COVID-19 cases since the pandemic began.

Texas Republican Senator Ted Cruz Dared People To Come For His Turkey, Instead Twitter Came For Him

...As Republican leaders step over one another to condemn the health advisories around traveling and gathering for Thanksgiving, Cruz jumped on the COVID-denial bandwagon to say share a very special and deeply idiotic image on Twitter.

His post, which used a star to represent the Texas flag, was the latest in a string of Republicans who are trying to create a "culture war" over Thanksgiving during the pandemic

...But since Cruz asked for everyone to "come and take it," the internet replied — and not in kind.

But in case we needed another reason to condemn Ted Cruz, his failed turkey post was matched with the reappearance of a problematic predicion he made in July. During an appearance on CNN, Cruz declared that Democrats would stop caring about the coronavirus if Joe Biden won the election. “If it ends up that Biden wins in November—I hope he doesn't, I don't think he will—but if he does, I guarantee you the week after the election, suddenly all those Democratic governors, all of those Democratic mayors will say, “Everything is magically better, go back to work, go back to school,” Cruz told the network as it labeled his segment “Sen. Cruz Foolishly Downplays Severity of COVID-19.”

“Suddenly the problems are solved. You won’t to have to wait for Biden to be sworn in.”

...Perhaps Ted Cruz should keep his hot takes to himself — or maybe he can spread them only at his own Thanksgiving dinner, which is surely shaping up to be the superspreader event of the holiday season.
