kingdragonfly: I suspect the world will fall into seven camps:

8. Those who will delay getting vaccinated, allowing others to be the first guinea pigs of rushed-into-production vaccines.

9. Those who will allow everyone else to get vaccined so they have no need to. I guess that will then be an inverse bubble?

Arrogance personified. If this attitude is reflected in the current members of the team then best send them all home now. They're not likely to respect our quarantine requirements. I suspect (hope) this isn't the attitude of the current team.

Yes send them home. Windies must have been here a while as the first game is tonight. Haven't heard a peep. I imagine the players and the public will enjoy tonight, and good on them all. Akhtar suggested they go back home and not play NZ for 5 years. I'm very ok with that.

There have been no conferences this week, just statements from the Ministry of Health on their website (and presumably emailed to major newsrooms)

Today is 7 new cases in MIQ, 6 cricket players + 1 other

Only 3 active cases remain from the quarantine cluster, but interestingly they are all in Wellington,

indicating that the shopworker in Auckland and their neighbour have recovered... I would imagine the Wellington cases will tick recovered in the next few days too. and then as the Victorians say we should have some double "donut" days

Cricket team does show the problems of high trust assuming certain groups are more trustworthy.
Risk is that those used to privilege of being stars living in atmosphere of special treatment, is that normal rules apply to others.

Similar with proposals for high net wealth tourists and such, some will be responsible, but others have not heard the word NO for many a year.
Living with restrictions is difficult for those that never have.
Those used to having rules bend and melt before their privilege, surrounded by those that make things simply happen.

So risk compared with us common folk, well not much different, maybe more like 501s used to bending and breaking em :-)

Anyway our systems seem to be good we have identified issues, so we were not looking the other way.

This is terrible. It is also the entire countries / governments rules that they must follow. They should just send them back IMO. They shouldn't have needed warnings. This has really turned me off cricket as a sport.

Cricket isn't the problem here, it is an arrogant ex player that is the problem. Someone who needs to learn about the tried and true saying "When in Rome do as the Romans do".

But you also need to add onto that two different international cricket teams coming to NZ, both allegedly not following the special rules . I mean they were given special treatment as well, allowing them to train in bubbles. This at a time when the world is in the middle of a global pandemic, and sports in other countries are not even taking place with crowds like NZ.

Pretty much.

The 'norm' plan (this isn't the first, Australia, UK Netball, West Indies have all done it..) seems to have been to keep any inter-group transfer controllable.  -

Arrive, Segregation (their own hotel). Test on arrival.

For first 3 days, isolation/confinement to mini-bubbles/pairs to ensure no transfer if any have encountered during journey. Strict food drop off and no mingling breaks etc

After 3 days, select bubbles expanded for fitness and training.

day ~12 tests. As long as all clear bubble expands. Closing on release

Now, despite arriving (via Singapore Tues presumably) they've essentially confined to rooms. 6 Isolated away. And I guess they'll be monitored for further transfer and won't be out until everyone has had their 14 days and produced a negative.

There will be some 'but we need to train together' pleas going on I bet.

I wonder what the top epidemiologists say about it. I remember one of our top ones wasn't happy about the double bunking's for the fishing crews, and said that it was just luck the  NZ hadn't had a more widespread  outbreak from the incursions. I suspect an outbreak isn't too far off, because noone is scanning now, as it isn't mandatory. Despite our contact tracing needing people to do it. . Oh well I guess the government will learn eventually.

ALso saw that someone mentioned the UK. Their lockdown is being ignored by many. At risk people are essentially just shielding.
