I'm now on the waiting list to see a urologist. I'm not too concerned as my GP several years ago did a DRE and said prostate was enlarged, but no signs of anything nasty.

But with family history I'm wanting a 2nd specialist opinion.

At least the use of MRI is pretty common these days.

Add a biopsy if anything looks a bit odd and it pretty much gives a full picture.

My GP recently told me that increasingly, a rapid bump in PSA readings is the real sign they look out for — if this occurs, they tend to go straight to an MRI instead of the digital exam.
