(How do you apply strikethrough formatting?) (How do you apply strikethrough formatting?)

At beginning of strikethrough Type '[' then type 's' then type ']'

To end strikethrough repeat but include '/' as with other examples.

networkn:

Sorry, I disagree with this. Ultimately, they answer to the ministers. Start firing people and see how much more efficient they get.

The fact the ministers themselves aren't holding people to account means there is no consequence for people failing to do their jobs. Ultimately, that reflects on the Governments competence.

The first priority of a bureaucracy is to sustain itself. The second priority is to sustain the people at the top. There will be many reasons why you shouldn't fire the person at the top, often involving someone at the bottom.

In fact, the people within the bureaucracy are doing their jobs, and, in my experience, working very hard to do it. The problem is that their jobs are defined in terms of maintaining the bureaucracy... reporting to committees with vague accountability convened to meet some legislative requirement based on Crimean war hospitals.

I see this happen every day on Christchurch bus services, even drivers don't wear masks and I've never seen this enforced.

Complacency is fun. I really wish this would be enforced.

As someone who drives past a break park-up. Yeeeeep. Someone here advises me (although I've not seen this) that somehow drivers had a loophole to be exempt. Despite being the sole long-term interaction common factor vs passengers. I can't find reason for this, When the .govt says

by drivers, pilots, staff or crew of the service if they are in a space completely separated from passengers, for example pilots in a cockpit or train drivers in a train cab.

When we first change compliance was high. Even school kids. But if they are on their own bus as a group they don't need to now. So unless some companies have a blind up and are putting themselves in this group themselves. Pretty sure we shouldn't be seeing what we are here.

They've even openly stated they won't stop you boarding (we saw how well that went previously). Only 'encourage' the use of.

cokemaster: Why isn’t worksafe investigating a potentially unsafe workplace?

From a lay person's perspective, MIQ do not appear to have all the policies and processes that a reasonable employer would have been expected to implement.

We need more transparency. We need accountability.

This

In my experience, nothing concentrates the mind of senior managers more than someone around the committee table asking "Well, if {<in this case>an unvaccinated MIQ worker catches Covid and dies} who goes to prison?", and then not laughing.

By the way, it's not just NZ that has a problem with unvaccinated MIQ workers:

WA set to make COVID-19 vaccination mandatory for hotel quarantine workers as two out of five resist the jab

Auckland as SARS-COV2 central with vulnerable South Auckland communities.

Yeh well. Enforcement.

I think our strategy is general social pressure, as often these cases are attention seeking.
Phone setup to quickly record any conflagration over their rights, vs the social responsibility and care for your fellow humans.

This was writ large in Aussie where people phone held at the ready to record for their online fandom, provoking police response.
Behavior then goes completely loopy, drama being more clicks and likes, for even more fame.

Airlines its probably easier as you have to book under your name seat assignments etc.
Sanction of being stood down from booking for x months in future can be done.

Good news is they seemed to be the only one, so its working people are being reasonable.

Its a very long trip to be uncomfortably sitting as odd one out in priority seats.

Edit, I type therefore I typo.

because there will always be some risk in working there as you cannot eliminate it short of stopping people coming back. you cant argue with that. if you want people coming back there will always be some risk involved, hence the MIQ facilities, hence the PPE, hence the SOPs and protocols etc.

unless the worker was having midnight encounters with someone who had covid, worksafe wont find anything and will likely be a waste of time.

as mentioned before about the vaccination of workers i think some people have underestimated the timeline based on a number of factors that will be addressed going forwards.

This thing has been made up as it's gone along. CERA is the closest thing that NZ has had to this and there were similar problems, and in some cases far worse.

It is absolutely inevitable that there will be big mistakes - no one has done this sort of thing for this long before.

You literally have no idea what performance management is or isn't happening - you do not, and will never, know as that is private.

Sure things are being made up as they go along.. And sure mistakes will happen. The problem is that there are simply far too many loopholes in our systems that you simply can't put down to mistakes or learning as we go along.

We don't even have official records showing when the MIQ worker was last tested. Why? Because we don't actually a have a register that stores all of this, and Hipkins said on Friday we'll now be starting one. How can anybody with any intelligence developing these processes seriously not think that keeping track of tests and the results for all border workers is not important?

And now we're opening up testing centres for people to be tested.

How long before we start calling these cases what they are.. Community transmission.

Who knows?

Seems highly likely that in future as vaccine is slowly rolled out, we're going to have a serious problem if some people deliberately don't comply with efforts to avoid CT, vaccinated or not, there'll be some who just don't give a damn about others.

Vaccinated or not, that guy is an idiot.
