Also, look at things like #6. These people either have absolutely no idea how vaccines work, or do know but are deliberately misleading people about it. Neither of which is a good look. Or #4: Animals exposed to Covid19 became very sick. Yer don't say! D'you reckon Covid19 might be dangerous then?

The real question of course is how, given red and green zone passengers are supposedly prevented from mingling.

Those people aren't going to pay any attention. In my experience, Anti Vaxxers only change their mind when they actually see the consequences of not vaccinating.

Being Anti Vaxx isn't a logical or science based thing.

Being Anti Vaxx isn't a logical or science based thing.

This isn't for the benefit of anti-vaxxers. I agree that many of them are long beyond salvation. But we had a relative who was dead against the vaccine, and we were able to persuade them with some gentle prodding of the science behind their concerns.

Two common concerns I hear from people are that the vaccine is "experimental", and concerns around the speed of development. Articles like this one help to dispel these fears.

There is an item about Jill Biden on CNN site today that mentions her reassuring someone precisely like this, fearful of the vaccine because it was 'experimental', but willing to get it anyway after Biden explained how that was untrue. There are a lot of people like this, who just need proper information and reassurance from others they trust.

And they're willing to come up with any reason to avoid taking the vaccine, e.g. "this vaccine can't work because if it did they wouldn't have been able to develop it so quickly", which is one I heard recently. If God himself/herself/itself came down from heaven/wherever and handed them the vaccine, the response would be "well that wasn't actually the real God, so we won't use it".

Yes, you can convince the easily led with a direct conversation, but in my experience, you don't convince those people by broadcasting facts in social media, unless those facts already support what they already believe or are leaning too.

Probably not a lot of harm in posting the facts, however I wouldn't get your hopes up, because as soon as you post it, the anti-vaxxers will post 'proof' that they are lies.

I think they must read the same Facebook group(s) as the people I've talked to, heard exactly the same thing. There was a study published about a week ago which showed that people who used Facebook to get information were less informed about medical issues than those who didn't. Across various measures, age, gender, and so on, the distinguishing factor was whether they got their information from Facebook. It has negative utility for informing people, you know less, or at least less that's correct, about the topic if you use Facebook.

I think peoples relunctance to the vaccine, and natural distrust, is entirely reasonable. Vaccines were initially said to be 'years' away as in 2-3. Suddenly, they had them. It happened very quickly.

I am pro science, pro vaccination and *very* against anti-vaxxers, but even I felt slightly anxious toward it. I did it because I am high risk for a number of reasons including the fact my wife is a front line worker, but mostly because I feel a responsibility to do my part to protect those who cannot have the vaccination. I don't think for this particular vaccination, jumping over people who are relunctant or anxious is appropriate. Unlike Measles, Whooping Cough and Polio who have massively long and successful track records, C19 vaccine is pretty new and unknown. Softly softly is the way to reassure people.

Oh, I just automatically spell it that way out of habit since it's an appropriate tag, and figured it's not a four-letter word, I can change it in future when I type it (assuming I remember).

As the article says, it's not surprising, since flu is also an airborne virus. So measures to combat covid are likely to be very effective against flu. I expect it's the same with the common cold.

Anecdotally, the wintering-over group at Scott Base is pretty much viral-disease-free from about 2 weeks after the last plane leaves until the first plane lands next spring.

Perhaps an annual 2-week lockdown would be successful in keeping these and other airborne diseases in check?
