This shocks me

https://www.stuff.co.nz/national/health/coronavirus/125180540/covid19-welleducated-and-welloff-antivaxxers-are-among-us

Im not bothered about the anti-crew that traverse most things these days, but Covid is Covid. Its not the flu or a dental jab to make that filling easier, its serious, but maybe the jab is seen by more than a few as not needed? While idiots like this wont help herd immunity, Id hope the rest of us will, and they can later on, whine about getting sick, and also whine about being declined as no vaccination certificate for whatever travel/experience they paid for. I had a blood test the other day, have had flu jab before, and had the odd dental anti pain jab, what is the issue? It appears to be more between the ears than anything rational.

It shocks you? Odd. I'm entirely unsurprised.

Clearly I've mistakenly assumed Covid was the same big deal I percieve it to be, that it will also be for most people, a no brainer to get vaccinated. Not even worth 4 nanoseconds to think about it. A couple I know travel extensively, both are not fussed, they will hold off. We've had lots of jabs so why not, but no rush. One of them doesnt get a flu jab as she never gets the flu, but if she did regularly get it, the flu jab would no doubt be an annual affair, a no brainer. But not Covid

I've had two separate discussions this week with people who are by no means anti vax who had seemed surprised I've already had my jab and commented that because they don't travel overseas like I do that there is no need for them to be vaccinated.

Fark me, there are idiots in this world.

I'm not sure if idiots is the right word.. There are simply people who don't understand why they need a vaccine when we have no Covid in NZ, and don't understand what at some point once the borders open that we will have Covid in NZ.

The longer discussion about endemic Covid is suppressed like it's some sort of taboo topic, the worse the issue is going to be.

Maybe Covid vaccinations need to be a game (which is something the US basically has moved towards).. Every time you refer somebody to book using a referral link you both get a prize.

I'm just glad I've been able to get my first jab already, because the risks now to countries like NZ and Australia are probably the highest they've been since the start of the outbreak.

I read that those that want to get vaccinated has risen to 77%

How does herd immunity work if:

20% of our population is 14 and younger so wont get vaccinated (yes, that may change)

And of the remaining 80%, 1/4 doesn't want the vaccine, leaving a total of 60% vaccinated from the total population. And that the kids, the 20%, are largely congregated together at school and kindies for 5 days a week?

And to add to that a number of studies have shown babies born to mothers who have been immunised have developed antibodies.

Cloud spending continues to surge globally, but most organisations haven’t made the changes necessary to maximise the value and cost-efficiency benefits of their cloud investments. Download the whitepaper From Overspend to Advantage now.

Batman:

I take it that's a yes, and not just a yes but on priority list?

Supposedly a priority 3 group (from May onwards) but almost end of May with no information and announcements about getting it.

We are now in a position where my partner is due this week.

Call me cynical but I was under the impression we both would have been vaccinated by now judging by the timelines we were floated.

I would be more forgiving but I've developed a case of the sniffles this morning and now face possibly trying to get a test at short notice so I can be there for the birth of my first child.

My old man is in his late 70’s, one of his lungs has collapsed and barely walk 100m without losing his breath.  He also has cancer and is in & out of hospital 3-4 times per year with various health issues including having a stroke at the start of this year.

If that’s not underlying health issues, I am not sure what is and he still has not had a call up.

The key thing is that group 3 starts *from* May. Chris Hipkins has been quite snarky of a few occasions pointing out that the key word is 'from'. A lot of people (including myself) assumed that group 3 would be complete by July when group 4 officially begins based off the original MoH timeframes, but this is not the case.

The rollout for group 3 is going to take an estimated ~3 months so most should be vaccinated by the end of August in time for group 4 to ramp up in Sep and Oct which is when the vast majority of people will receive their vaccines.

The key thing right now is that there are simply insufficient vaccines to vaccinate large numbers of people in group 3. The targets for June 30th are only going to give a couple of hundred thousand doses beyond the number required for phase 1 and phase 2 people.

To add to this - Chris Bishop was vaccinated yesterday (seems quite a number of MP's are going to be in the next few weeks so they can all push this in their communities) and posted about this on FB. There are then a few hundred comments, mostly by people who don't want to be vaccinated.

I'm really not sure how this misinformation is going to be corrected, and it's just getting worse every day right now.

The key thing right now is that there are simply insufficient *vaccinators* to vaccinate large numbers of people in group 3.  If you waved your wand and produced 1 billion doses right now, it would still be the same speed rollout.

I see this as the key bottleneck.  In Auckland the west vaccination (henderson?) shuts at 3, and a nurse told me last night it was staff not supply.

Covid in the wild in Melbourne. If MOH NZ comes out and says "It's all over the waste-water in Auckland, holy ****" then I'd be worried about my current runny nose.

Will keep an eye on it and if anything else comes of it, test-time.

are we allowed to question the level of planning or is that off limits.

i can think of a few things - ask doctors and nurses / health practitioners who have retired or on non practicing status - give them 12 months of vaccinator practicing certificate
