The herald has been pretty crap on reporting this.

Appointments will also be required for vaccinations in all DHB areas.

Appointments you can’t get…!

I don't think anybody knows the real figures other than this guy who seems to be the only guy in NZ to know this. So who knows!

No, will not run out.  They will scale to ensure that.

But supply and vaccinations are going to be very constrained until at least mid-July based on current scheduled deliveries in the Herald article; ie.

"Bloomfield said there will be enough weekly arrivals of vaccine shipments for DHBs to deliver 500,000 doses in the next five weeks."

As per plot below, that is lower than the recent rate of vaccinations.  And even that will leave just ~225k doses on hand as at 15 July, assuming deliveries per the schedule outlined in the Herald article (1.5m doses by mid-July).

Margin between NZ and AU looks likely to grow significantly over the next 5 weeks?

We may not run out of vaccines but it has been acknowledged this afternoon by everybody but the Govt that things are going to be very very tight for at least the next month.

I don't know why they can't just be honest about things, say we're in a pandemic and we're not at the front of the queue and that there is a shortage of vaccines.. rather than trying to deny everything.

Thing to remember about NZ vs Aussie is that (most) people over 50 in Aussie are getting AZ and have a 12 week period between 1st and 2nd doses.

Worth noting this Newsroom story was written before official announcements this afternoon about the vaccine shortage.

As they have increased the shelf life, and the ability to store at lower temps, wastage is less likely. They will just push through and probably not order as much in the following week

All tests are not created equal.

Rapid Covid tests used in mass UK programme get scathing US report
Innova tests’ performance not proven and they should be returned to manufacturer or thrown in bin, says FDA
https://www.theguardian.com/world/2021/jun/11/us-health-agency-gives-innova-lateral-flow-covid-tests-scathing-review

""
In its report, the agency accused the company of “false or misleading” estimates of the clinical performance of certain configurations of the test, saying the estimates did not accurately reflect the performance of the diagnostic devices during clinical studies.
""
The accuracy of the Innova tests also falls dramatically when administered by self-trained, non-healthcare workers versus lab scientists.
