Whee! Just got jabbed yesterday. Official info from health service providers says be patient and keep waiting, we will let you know. But a friend pointed me to a vac tent in town where anyone over 65 can walk in and get it. They also gave me an appointment for the booster. I'm grateful to have it but I really wish those responsible would get their act together and start publishing consistent information. It is really confusing to keep hearing different things from different agencies.

The CDHB site claims they are doing that in canterbury as small rural areas are easy to target the age group in small manageable clusters. But by the looks it's only via pure luck or word of mouth you find them as your example suggests

From what I see and hear the roll out has been very haphazard.

Apparently in Hamilton there are two vaccination centres, one an iwi operated one at an iwi health centre where you can walk in (assuming you know it exists) and the DHB one which is essentially appointment only without any obvious way to be able to make an appointment.

Based on what I've seen I'm amazed we've achieved the current level of vaccinations.

It's surprising we still have walk up centres (over the weekend there was a well publicised site in Auckland where literally anybody could just rock up) since Friday's announcement about the serious vaccine shortage for the next 5 weeks or so. You'd think we'd be saving them for those in priority groups that still have no idea when they'll be vaccinated.

In Hamilton they are vaccinating at the Hospital and the Te Rapa Racecourse.

Not sure which of those might be considered Iwi.

As previously mentioned on this thread my partner and got our first dose in Auckland a week ago.

She got an email with a second appointment 3 weeks later, and was easily able to change it to a time convenient to her via the online system.

I havn't got any email, so called the number. Gave up waiting after after 20mins this afternoon, but tired again this evening and got through to a person. She was real helpful, but was looking to book me another appoint, rather than to find my lost one, and the next available appointment at the vaccination center I used last time was 7.5 weeks after my first. (CDC says that if you can't do the 3 weeks spacing, it is OK to go up to 6 weeks, but there is little data available beyond that). So I didn't book the appointment.

Will need to drive my partner to the vaccination center anyway, so I will try my luck as a walk in at the time of her appointment.

I assume there was a typo made with my email address, and there has been an appointment made for me that I will miss because I don't know when it is... Hopefully the systems are better when we get to the high volume stage.

Interesting, I wasn't aware of the hospital and no one I have spoken to has mentioned the hospital. A friend, whom I would have expected would have known about the hospital centre, had their's at the racecourse. With the hospital that makes three. The Iwi one (which I have been told is walk in) is on Wairere Drive/Dey Street.

I only heard about the walk in one on Sunday, so it's possible things have changed over the weekend.

Appears they still want you to do it online. But presume if demand is low they might take you as a walk in if fitting the bill rather than waste.

Why didn't you try searching against your NHI number? This is the key that everything is logged against.

I wonder how many are stuck still trying to work out how to be vaccinated?

From talking to various high-risk category neighbours and family it seems to be nearly impossible, at least in Auckland, to sign up for it. Several people in the neighbourhood said the online process was so onerous they just gave up and did it via phone. Mother Neb first tried it herself for some time, then called over a neighbour who also couldn't figure it out, then tried it herself again for awhile until eventually she got an appointment... halfway across the city, the nearest place she could go. From the usability side it's every bit as badly done as the contact tracing app.

You have to be really, really, really determined to get vaccinated in order to get it. For anyone who's in the "sounds like a good idea, I should get it some time" category, they're never actually going to get it because it's been made so incredibly hard to do.

The neighbourhood peanut gallery was debating how it's possible for them to run an election almost perfectly, with everyone being contacted and notified and it all being sorted over an issue that really isn't that critical, but they're totally unable to sort out a potential life-and-death issue. Maybe they should get the electoral commission to handle the vaccinations.

Assume when that goes live it will replace the DHB solutions. Needs to be soon, or the pain of the transition may exceed the gains from the new system.

From what I've heard of the current system, as it's run in Auckland, absolutely anything would be better than that, up to and including things like pulling coloured pebbles from a clay jar to book your appointment.

Geektastic: I won $80 once.

I've made just over $35,000 by never buying a $20 ticket each week that Lotto has run, so I reckon I've done pretty well really.

I think the problem is more the MOH which, from reading between the lines, is dysfunctional. It didn't want to work with the whole of government approach when Covid started, they considered they knew best and wanted to go alone. The release recent heavily edited Mental Health report is a other example. Another is we have plenty of PPE yet the front line staff were saying we are yet to see it. We have plenty of vaccine yet some centres have or are running out.

I'm  not sure where the blame lies. The Minister for Health and or Minister for Covid Response need to take some blame for not making sure the "house is in order" but there are some bureaucrats who need to get their act together.

Perhaps you're right and we need to get the bureaucrats from the Electoral Commission in to run the MOH. Mind you think of the botch up of the last census, perhaps the incompetence is widespread.

that's what happens when you have popular people (vs most qualified) running random ministries everywhere around the world. could have been worse - eg somewhere in the world in america between 2016/7-2020/1
