She was vaccinated as well (only with a single jab like him) though, so delayed onset of symptoms or testing positive is something that has been reported. We know that Delta typically has a quicker onset period of symptoms for people who have become infected.

I don't think you should be going to Aussie for any period of time unless you are prepared to get stuck.

You know what, I used to be in favour of the bubble. I think my exact words were “it’s time” in this very thread. I’m now extremely unconvinced that we need it or that it’s even a good idea.

The visitors from Sydney did everything the tourism and hospitality industries have been lobbying for: they spent money, they dined out, they visited attractions like Te Papa. All the things that we’ve been told will support the economy and be worth it. Now we get level 2 for Wellington and the strong potential of community transmission.

Perth now imposing restrictions for 3 days, woman who'd returned from Sydney on the 20th. I gather that because she wasn't aware that she'd been in a hotspot area until recently, she won't have been self isolating and could have been infectious in the community for a few days.

As of today, as they have extended it. Those who suffer more than 30% loss can get (I can't recall the exact figure) ~1200/day +200 per fulltime staff. It won't cover their full period. But may drop them in a little reprieve bucket.

The travel between Australia and Aotearoa should be stopped for all states and stay stopped until Australia is clear or we have completed vaccination.

I'm not sure if that's correct - even though I've seen it stated in the media. The symptoms are widely reported as being "different" (to other variants) with runny nose, sore throat, and headache, thus more likely to be dismissed as "just a cold" unless symptoms worsen. That combined with circulation in younger people in countries with higher vaccination rates for older people probably contributes to how quickly it spreads - maybe not just the functional changes in the spike proteins making it more transmissible.

Here:

A headache, sore throat and runny nose are now the most commonly reported symptoms linked to Covid infection in the UK, researchers say.

The classic Covid symptoms people should look out for, the NHS says, are:

cough
fever
loss of smell or taste
But Prof Spector says these are now less common, based on the data the Zoe team has been receiving from thousands of people who have logged their symptoms on an app.

I agree. Ive flip flopped over the bubble, but if AUS and NZ are supposedly Covid clear then its a good thing (not economically but friends and family.Economically its marginal at best)

But if NZ or AUS has CT, then pause it. Its only one or two CT so its ok doesn't cut it. The LAG. The close contact partner who tested negative who is now positive proves it. If we are happy for alert levels 2 3 and 4, then yes, go for it

But instead you get virtually no business as everyone is mostly hunkered down.

Of course in a Bubble you have to respect all your partners, and us shutting the boarder before big brother Australia ?.
Well it would have probably been ugly, so I can understand in these agreements its not perfect.

Oh yes if it was reversed, would Aussie have pulled our rug ? :-)

Hopefully a rush of locals will return in a couple of days to keep business on life support, until Aussies return.

I'm sure the Ski industry is rapidly preparing special deals to get New Zealanders out and spending.
Its even a chance to get those sunbirds normally jetting off to become snowbirds and appreciate our winter wonderlands. $ are there.

The bubble was a sound and good idea. But as we have seen, it doesnt work out. If and when AUS is again "Covid free" the premise needs to continue. Go for it and enjoy but at any minute its over. Too many wanted the bubble as they have skin in the game. The issue now, is keeping other people's skin alive

Yes, its not great. If you rely on foreign tourists. But If I went to the GC mates golf trip, we will spend there, no help for NZ's economy. They come here. Its not about the economy its about friends and family and blame Covid for that if its problematical. If AUS gets outbreaks, it all stops, same for NZ. In the meantime spend here, that trip will happen in due course
