I have. That's one "experts" view. Ive seen others that say 80% means herd immunity. Is his view universally accepted?

I thought the article explained reasonably clearly how herd immunity rates vary according to R0, hence the 'unachievable in NZ' claim.

The US really is a real world experiment right now - they probably won't hit their target of 70% of all adults having had their first jab by 4th July and sit at under 50% fully vaccinated but the US is fully open and operating as normal.

If Delta really is this supercharged mutant strain that's going to infect us all even if we've vaccinated (as some experts would have us think) we're certainly going to know within the next month.

if they didnt care when thousands were dying a year ago then nothing is going to stop them now from what they are doing and then they will tell the rest of the world they were right all along about lock downs etc.

Common sense is not as common as you think.

Not quite my take on it but if they don't see significant increases in death rates as Delta spreads it's a very good sign for the real world effectiveness of vaccines. The UK is in much the same boat once they fully open up in a few weeks after their big push for 2nd jabs so there are increased numbers of fully vaccinated.

Son in Brighton had his first shot of Moderna at the end of last week. Second dose isn't until the first week of September.

It's all very well for your employer to cover the financial cost of any disruption, but what about the disruption to your personal commitments?

Personally if my employer asked me to travel to Australia then I would simply refuse.

That's not an option in my case.

Are you a slave or something? Of course not going is an option. If they will not appropriately pay you for the risk, refuse to go.

While that might be the case for you, there are plenty of organisations which you obviously haven't been involved with where not going is not an option. You think those people guarding the MIF's actually want to be there?

Based on Shaun Hendy's previous predictions this the best possible news as he is normally wrong and too high on his predictions

That's the issue. Many experts which is good, what isnt good is the wide spread of views from them. Thats probably more an issue of too conservative and not conservative enough, which for the rest of us means we don't know what expert view to go by and what expert view to ignore

I think the NZHerald forgot the word "active" for their total number of cases!

That is because America is a nation of gun toting, sanctimonious schmucks who believe only they are the righteous ones who shall inherit the earth!

It is a pity really, considering the origins of their heritage of hardship, antagonism, antipathy & racism from their original home countries. A new beginning in a promised land and what do we have now, just what their ancestors supposedly left behind.

Whilst the difficult we can do immediately, the impossible takes a bit longer. However, miracles you will have to wait for.

Yes. The clue was when the article said " Herd immunity is...."

It seems we are either much ahead of, or lagging seriously behind out Aussie Mates

Yes, I know those are different measures - one is designed to show the NZ government in a bad light and the other to cast shade of the Australian government - but it does go to show how confused and confusing the vaccination situation is.

Both sets of graphs show NZ and Australia in a bad light. When you're arguing about whether you are the worst or second worst who cares?

Isn't it that you have participated, and where you "finish" doesn't matter in this PC World today?
