That's just NSW. Vic & Qld seems to be about the same as NZ, WA and SA and NT very risk-averse. Tas - I have no idea, it's even more likely to be left off world maps than NZ.

This is good. Producing the new mRNA should be relatively easy, the delivery system / encapsulation should be the same process:

Pfizer and BioNTech announced on Thursday that they are developing a version of the coronavirus vaccine that targets Delta, a highly contagious variant that has spread to 98 countries. The companies expect to launch clinical trials of the vaccine in August.

It seems 2020 was the year of Covid. No real drama

2021 is the year of the vaccine, great.

2021.5 and onwards is a REAL problem. Variants, more transmissible, more infectious, and the vaccines seem to fade. Shutting the borders to everyone seemed a stupid idea, but maybe not now. Lock them, wait a bit to see what happens, is probably better than to see what happens then lock them?

Im thinking more of the culture. Kiwis are conservative, Aussies like Americans are more out there. My half brother farms cane near Mackay, he thinks Covid is a scam. Now, he's not stupid, but its a very American type of attitude.

We have the worst vaccination rate in the entire OECD, how would you describe it?

Here, in order of highest vaccination rates to worst, is the complete list of OECD countries outperforming us:

It is certainly interesting to see the difference between states. I don't know enough about Australian politics to know why there is such a difference.

Well they didn't have much else to do with a strict no open/trade list. Not self proclaimed 'essential' flag like EB games and polite request to stay home if you can.

But they Still went out en masse until it was quashed. They all start without really doing one. Until they take a stand (unlike nsw)

To be fair, Au/NZ are very close in terms of being equal bottom, but IMO we seem to have targeted vaccination better.

This NSW outbreak happened in a way that I expect shouldn't have in NZ, then spread to unvaccinated front-line healthcare workers.

Scott Morrison and Gladys Berejiklian viciously attacked Victoria and boasted that NSW had the "gold standard" but were reluctant to eat humble pie, hence the appallingly slow reaction when the inevitable happened.

The federal government mishandled the messaging with the clotting issue with the AZ vaccine, that's going to sabotage vaccine uptake through giving ammo to nutters, and put them in a bit of trouble WRT supply of alternatives.

And despite taking far fewer returnees through MIQ than NZ on a population basis, they never got it right - or should I say did worse than NZ once we finally got our act together earlier this year.

The slow vaccine delivery for both countries was not a "failure". It was planned. If we can continue to hold C-19 at bay, both countries will have done incredibly well. If we lose the plot now though - we're doomed to something very nasty indeed.

How COVID-19 damages the brain is becoming clearer. New evidence suggests that the coronavirus’s assault on the brain could be multipronged: it might attack certain brain cells directly, reduce blood flow to brain tissue or trigger production of immune molecules that can harm brain cells.

(note that the "coulds" and "mights" refer to the mechanism. That C-19 - even in mild cases - damages the brain has been is proven. Read the article).

Incredible.

Being a Stuff article, I'm suspicious from the start, and then add on top of that the fact there are multiple people in MIQ right now because they couldn't prove their pre departure testing - and I'm calling bull.

Customs is checking, and those are can't prove PDT are being put in isolation.

Excellent. Whose at the bottom of the list of Covid negative outcomes? New Zealand.

I have no idea how we could vaccinate more when we use up all of our supplies as they come in? As to why Pfizer aren't sending us more, thats pretty obvious, other countries need it more than us. Its probably getting a bit selfish if while our rugby stadiums are full we expect to get more supplies at the expense of other countries.

I think my point was quite obvious, they dont do lockdown well. No they didn't stay at home for fun, they often went out as they don't want to lockdown its not fair, hence it goes on and on and on

Exactly. We had fixed supplies, so we can't vaccinate everyone in a week. We managed to align the steady and now growing supplies with containment. If there was a delay, no supplies for a month for some reason, we could deal with that very easily.
