It's got to be kind of embarrassing for her to have to stand up and say where there is a don't go to work order in place, you need to follow it
And spell out that just because you feel fine does not mean you aren't spreading it. Explaining asymptomatic transfer

Sheesh

Underestimating the lower end of the bell curve would be a mistake.

Yeah - it's annoying, but she has to get the message through.

Scott3:

Scott3:

Have NZ based international air crew (and international sea crew) been picked up in the requirements somewhere?

Order is now out:

https://www.legislation.govt.nz/regulation/public/2021/0182/latest/whole.html#LMS519348

"Aircrew members" are listed in schedule 2. Yay.

Sounds like a blanket coverage too. i.e. doesn't matter if you are crewing dream-liners to Aussie, airbuses Auckland to wellington, or Cessna Caravan's to great barrier island, you need to be vaccinated...

NZ based international ship crew don't seem explicit covered, but are likely captured by "All workers (other than excluded port persons) who board affected ships"

Employees in contact with people listed appears to have been softened a lot. You now need to both handle affected items, and have contact with workers while working. I think what was in the press release was unreasonably broad, and the actual order is better.

Um, no. An aircrew member listed under the order is as follows (bolding covers pilots):

aircrew member means any of the following persons:

(a) cabin crew who— (i) are ordinarily resident in New Zealand; and (ii) work on an international flight (other than a QFT flight) on or after 15 July 2021: (b) other persons who— (i) are ordinarily resident in New Zealand; and (ii) are identified as crew members on a crew manifest for an affected aircraft that has travelled internationally on or after 15 July 2021; and (iii) have an international layover (whether airside or landside) during that travel: (c) cabin crew who, on or after 15 July 2021, travel on a domestic flight within New Zealand that carries international arriving or international transiting passengers (other than QFT persons) who have not yet completed isolation or quarantine at a managed isolation or quarantine facility

So pilots who have not had an international layover are not included in the compulsory vaccination schedule. Last I checked Sounds Air don’t fly outside of NZ.

Ah. Should have looked at definitions.

Its a bit strange.

https://www.legislation.govt.nz/regulation/public/2021/0182/latest/whole.html#LMS519332

So cabin crew traveling to Perth QFT with a layover don't need to be vaccinated.

But other crew (pilots etc.) to Perth QFT with a layover do need vaccination. (Do trans Tasman flights with NZ crew have layovers ever?)

But going to Melbourne with no lay over, the cabin crew would need to be vaccinated, but not the rest of the crew...

finally Taiwan bought some vaccines.

apparently had to be brokered by private companies as the govt was unable to buy, thought to be blocked by a 3rd party

You’ll find the wide body crews will already be vaccinated as they don’t just fly to Perth, but they could also be off to Asia and the USA.

Generally all airlines flying QFT to Australia have had their crews able to be vaccinated since March. The outfit I work for have been pushing hard for crews to be vaccinated and as of 1 June, any crew member who hasn’t been vaccinated was already limited to only operating domestically. This changed people’s desire to be vaccinated, as it meanest a lot of crew weren’t earning as much being stuck flying domestically.

Our pilots overnight on the Gold Coast and Melbourne right now, occasionally Sydney, but not at the moment for obvious reasons.

Its great that the airline (assume air NZ) is going above it's minimum requirement's.

Are air NZ the only airline with NZ based international crew at the moment?

The airline I work for is not Air NZ.

The QANTAS Group airlines (Jetconnect and Jetstar) have crew based in NZ flying across the Tasman. Jetstar crew are based in Auckland and Christchurch and do Tasman, Domestic and Pacific Island routes. Jetconnect based in Auckland and Wellington, fly the 737s across the Tasman.

Airwork (737 freighters and chartered 757 freighter) and Tasman Cargo (DHL 767) have crews based in Auckland and Christchurch flying freight between NZ and Oz.

Cathay used to have an Auckland base, but I believe that was closed down when COVID hit.

Besides that the only other international crew are the ones who arrive and are transported off to MIQ for their layovers.

So Tennessee in USA is in the bottom 6 or so states for vaccinations at 43% 1 Dose , 38% fully vaccinated.
https://www.usatoday.com/in-depth/graphics/2021/01/14/covid-vaccine-distribution-by-state-how-many-covid-vaccines-have-been-given-in-us-how-many-people/6599531002/

Firing your top vaccine official, will improve things.
Lawmakers in the state have been spreading vaccine misinformation in recent hearings, so probably fits the plan.

https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/politics/2021/07/12/tennessee-fires-top-vaccine-official-covid-19-shows-new-spread/7945422002/

""
Fiscus said she was a scapegoat who was terminated to appease state lawmakers angry about the department's efforts to vaccinate teenagers against coronavirus.
""
""
"It was my job to provide evidence-based education and vaccine access so that Tennesseans could protect themselves against COVID-19," Fiscus said in a written statement. "I have now been terminated for doing exactly that."
""

Latest data shows cases have surged 580% from previous week.

Meanwhile In the UK the timer has been set and clock ticking.

I would have thought it would be more embarrassing to be standing there giving details of a spread of covid that could have been contained if she wasnt so adamant that "there will be no lockdown" for two weeks.

That state premier is why they are in the predicament they are in now.

Do they need to do anything "official" when they've got the flexibility to "alter settings" for alert levels?

There are still idiots who can't be bothered wearing a mask while using public transport.

Nope.. I got told on Monday that they had finally decided to make mask wear mandatory for L2 and above, but have not seem anything public about this. I just assume it's been missed among all the faux outrage at the new border health order and NSW MIQ.

I'm not sure about needing to make things "official" with changes to the current orders but I still find it nuts that we didn't have increased mask wearing mandatory at L2 in Wellington. Along with so many other things this a reactive response rather than proactive. It's pretty clear now that if we'd had any Delta cases in Wellington that L2 would have been totally insufficient to prevent spread.
