With all the new locations that have just popped up we're probably just about hit our contact tracing capability on the first day..

I imagine so. I feel that stay at home means far more now than contact tracing. if we all did that, we should end up with all these cases, but all have been home self isolating. Home is the cure. Yes, you have flouters and you have essential workers and those that go to essential places. Masks, wash hands, then stay at home. Time.

Which shows exactly why a level 4 was the right call, and we just have to hope people are following the rules.

To make it into a discussable point, the opening up is the end game. That applied last Thursday as well as this Thursday. This outbreak changes nothing.

I guess I was just thinking about the trial this side of Christmas and if any Countries (Australia) might not want us at the moment. Watch this space.

If no one might not want us at the moment then that applies to just about every country in the world. The trial, assuming we beat this outbreak by then will proceed. In any case its not a public trial, its controlled, much like Covid vaccine trials. Any opening up can only proceed when all of us that can and want to, are vaccinated. And when people coming here are vaccinated. When you go to Bali, you have to be vaccinated. Thats about all that can be done, but wait there's more. Booster shots are likely to be a thing, to help catch up with virus strain evolution. And there is talk of anti-virals. Not sure what that is, but I imagine its a spray or inhaler, that takes care of nose and throat infection. (If you are vaccinated and won't get sick, you can still inhale Covid that infect the airways, and can spread from there)

IMO science played catchup, now its possible alongside. Knowledge is a big deal.

Just my opinions.

one of the latest cases is a 60 year old woman with connections to the border, may be close to ground zero.

Although no link (yet) to any of the other cases, which could indicate other chains of transmission or could indicate a missing link between or could indicate more info to be gleaned from her or one of the other existing cases.

I do hope the border link is where she got it, and that they can epidemiologically this case to the other existing cases. That would be the best outcome.

Yes, but does that really matter? It must be from the border. So, its a leak. The issue now is spread, post that cause.

I am in the unfortunate position where my central heating isn't working and requires a technician to visit to fix it.

Am I right in thinking that I can't do anything about it in level 4, but could organise a contactless visit from the technician when we eventually get to level 3?

I am using a heated throw to keep warm, but I don't really want to do that if we are locked up for several weeks.

This has the potential to be a pretty big outbreak.

I would say heating is essential during winter.

You can have a tradesperson come to your house to do urgent maintenance. The work must be essential to maintaining the necessities of life, or critical to safety. This includes electricians, plumbers and builders.

Non-urgent repairs or maintenance work should be postponed until Alert Level 4 restrictions have lifted.

Tradespeople and other workers are encouraged to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) when they come into your house.

If you do need a tradesperson to visit, you can keep yourself safe by keeping 2 metres away from the person visiting your home, and reducing physical contact by paying for the service online.

Yes it does matter. If it's shown that that case is genomically linked to the other cases, then her movements can be used to trace pointss of contact and makes ring-fencing the cluster much easier.

As last time I read the news they hadn't established that path of transmission, they may not be able to close it off, but it's good news. If she's the index case, they'll be able to estimate how long she's been infected and infectious in the community.

It may be a day or so before it can be genomically linked.

Thanks for that! I will give him a call and see if I can arrange for him to make a contactless visit to minimise any risk.

I do get that, but as Steve said, will contact tracing keep up? The AUT student could be huge, having a list of locations of interest starts to lose usefulness if they are everywhere. There is value saying that at XYZ Ltd on Thursday at 2pm get a test, but the vast majority of us should be staying at home. A test becomes a number, but of little use if my positive test is counted but Ive been at home since. I'm just looking at it from the swathe of places of interest vs stay at home.

Once the contact tracing is overwhelmed we are time-warped back to 26 March 2020. Two weeks to flatten the curve, then another two weeks to be sure. I hope it doesn’t come to that and we have at least learnt how to protect the most vulnerable.
