What the fark, Wellingtonians? Are you stupid?

Covid-19: Wellingtonians flock to Oriental Bay, despite lockdown | Stuff.co.nz

Was just at North West in Auckland, plenty of idiots who were without masks in the Countdown or pulling them down to talk to each other. Why even wear a mask??

It's not like this is out of sight and out of mind, the shopping centre across the road is on a bus route that is now a LOI.

If this is typical of the whole city then we deserve everything we're probably going to get, however if my shopping trip makes me a close contact of a case at some point then I'm going to have to isolate away from my newborn, and I shall be furious with the intensity of a thousand burning suns.

I'm sick of all the self congratulatory stuff that goes on before we get any real information. Much prefer to read the relevant details afterwards.

Yeah well it's not.

It's thanking people who are doing the right thing - as in most of us.

Oh really, the very first item mentioned in today's briefing was the good news on how well they'd done the vaccination front yesterday. That wasn't thanking anyone it was bragging how well they had done on a job that they could have been doing better in. Sounds like self congratulations to me.

It's basic comms. You may not like it but people are more likely to comply with something they see as being successful and positive.

You have to wonder that by and large we're not taking this lockdown as seriously as last time, especially when you see this.

Perhaps there needs to be a lot more publicity around staing in your bubble, staying in your neighbourhood etc.

Especially since you're not meant to be driving anywhere to get "Exercise" (or just sit around on the beach like it looks like a bunch of people are doing)

Well just wait till sun comes out in Auckland, is there a webcam in Mission Bay or Tamaki drive we can watch. ?

The news item is a good reminder and hopefully people will think a bit.

Has the MoH said how many people are eligible for the Covid vaccine? As in, anyone over the age of 12.

I'm guessing the number is between 4 and 4.5M?

It's chaos in Melbourne now:

NSW police I think have managed to shut protests down.  $3k fines might have helped keep numbers down.

I'm surprised we suddenly have so much vaccine to dish out.

I didn't think the daily briefing was around getting people to comply but rather inform/update on infection numbers, places of interest etc.

If compliance was part of the reason for the update then it would appear from reading some news items it isn't working all that well.

The lockdown message seems to be more low key this time.

You probably shouldn’t be - the data released by MoH has indicated a good supply situation for a while now; and even without that level of data, the fact we brought forward the age groups recently-ish would indicate good supply.

Edit: to respond to the original question, Stats NZ estimates the population of over 15s to be 4,154,000. Add a few for the 12-15 bracket and take a few out who aren’t eligible and it’s probably somewhere around 4.3m is my guess. I have not MOH numbers.

Doubt many will be sitting on Auckland beaches today, at least if the weather is as miserable as it is currently up here the Hibiscus Coast !

Turns out the popo are wrong and you are actually allowed to drive somewhere to get exercise! (As to whether that's a good idea.. I guess that depends on where/how far you go..)

Every piece of communication, especially directly from the PM, is part of the comms strategy.

I'm 100% confident that if it was presented that way there'd be criticism that the breifings were boring or too negative.

The comms is also about the health of the community including mental health. Constant bad news or lack of good news is not supportive of good mental health

I concede to the incompetence of the covid testing system.

There is no way to find out the status of your covid test , done nearly 3 days ago (and told at the time it would be an expedited test)

Talk to your GP is their BS don't talk to us get out of jail free card!

Central North Island LoI's now added.

Interesting entry for the Waiouru Public Toilets - "Staff and patrons: Stay at home, test immediately and  ...".  Must be a lot flasher than I envisaged.

https://www.health.govt.nz/our-work/diseases-and-conditions/covid-19-novel-coronavirus/covid-19-health-advice-public/contact-tracing-covid-19/covid-19-contact-tracing-locations-interest

Guess it was too rushed out to tweak the message to the situation.
