What the fark, Wellingtonians? Are you stupid?

Covid-19: Wellingtonians flock to Oriental Bay, despite lockdown | Stuff.co.nz

In fairness both shots are significantly zoomed in purposely with the goal of of making some people appear closer than they are. I don't see anybody actually breaching rules there, and despite masks not being mandatory outside, a good number have masks on. Even data from Sydney will tell you that's an incredibly very low risk environment for spread.

Exhibit A (Danish newspaper that first ran a story last year trying to point out the clickbait antics of other news sites)

A second Auckland to Wellington flight now a LOI. Does that mean there's another infected person we haven't heard about yet?

The comms is also about the health of the community including mental health. Constant bad news or lack of good news is not supportive of good mental health

Trouble is it wasn't really good news, just some pretty average data dressed up to look like good news.

I think 21 new cases is a win. I assume these are pre lockdown infections? Since Tuesday the infection possibility rate has plummeted, so I feel its good news so far. More to come though, until time gets us to the lockdown, given the lag.

Interesting perspective.

My thoughts are of the contrary. Let's hope you're right.

Depends if we lockdown or be a NSW

James Bond:

Has the MoH said how many people are eligible for the Covid vaccine? As in, anyone over the age of 12.

I'm guessing the number is between 4 and 4.5M?

Establishing that isn't actually that easy. There have been a few posts about that in here about that in the past month.

I estimated around 750k aged 11 and under, and somebody else in a post in here came up with a similar number. Stats NZ puts out population at 5,122,600 at the end of June so the actual figure probably sits around 4.372m or so.

The NZ Herald are using a figure of 4.09m on their vaccine tracker which they have now changed to eligible population rather than total population. They opted to use the 16+ figure for this so their percentage calculations are actually totally wrong and all need to be reduced.

No new cases in Coromandel and no wastewater detection must be good news too. The guy was in a crowded pub watching the rugby, if he'd been infectious at that stage then it's almost inconceivable he wouldn't have passed it on.

Thats what I thought. Same scenario if a LOI 9am to 9-15am, if your not there then no need to test

Its all part of the theatre.

Thats why you generally have to wait until 20 minutes into the presentation to find out the important stuff like level changes/extensions, etc.

If they walked in and said “Good afternoon, cabinet has decided that level restrictions for xxxx are extended until yyyy” and then went on to explain why most people would have already switched off.

That is why I check the web later. I’m sick of being ‘played’.

I support this Govt response, but like all things from any politician, its passing on the info and campaigning. Annoying. Give me the case numbers and other relevant stuff then I can switch off

Grain of salt re: Coromandel - guessing there might be some places not on mains there so may not get picked up by wastewater, but to counter that they'll likely be further out of the town centre and not walking around on Main Street.

That NZ433 on Thu which is what the student reported positive earlier today (returning home to Wellington from AUT) was on.

Turns out the popo are wrong and you are actually allowed to drive somewhere to get exercise! (As to whether that's a good idea.. I guess that depends on where/how far you go..)

The guide they are going on, is 'expected to be within waking distance.' even if you take the car to conserve or take kids who will moan.

I concede to the incompetence of the covid testing system.

There is no way to find out the status of your covid test , done nearly 3 days ago (and told at the time it would be an expedited test)

Talk to your GP is their BS don't talk to us get out of jail free card!

If you got it done at your GP, your GP gets the notification! So you do actually need to call/email your GP to get the results!

My result covid test result done last year was recorded on my manage my health webpage.
Doing 40k tests in a day would explain why it takes time to call with results.
But fully sympathize with the waiting for the unknown.

If it makes you feel better or it was a positive result you would have received a phone call shortly after it was done. But since you can't assume the sample is not in a queue somewhere, you have to wait and stay home. It's a bugger.

It wasn't done at the GP.  Even so, the GP is not working in the weekend (or during level 4).
