KrazyKid: My result covid test result done last year was recorded on my manage my health webpage.
Doing 40k tests in a day would explain why it takes time to call with results.
But fully sympathize with the waiting for the unknown.

If it makes you feel better or it was a positive result you would have received a phone call shortly after it was done. But since you can't assume the sample is not in a queue somewhere, you have to wait and stay home. It's a bugger.

The government knows this, yet, they still issue incorrect information. They should say, it might take up to 5 days to get your result, but on average it takes 'x' days.

Why was my son told his test would be expedited based on risk?  They shouldn't even say this because it is not true and only causes concern that the tests have gone missing.

3 of them took their test at the same time, 1 hour after another of their friends. The friend who did it an hour earlier had results within 24 hours.  Yet, they are waiting nearly 3 days and still no answer.

They are probably going to go and get retested again tomorrow in case the results have gone missing.

NZ clearly wasn't prepared for this. I had a test here in Melbourne as our outbreak started a couple of weeks ago. Test centres were being hit HARD, but they were able to ramp up in hours - because they were prepared to. And I had a result back just under 11 hours from the test.

I think folks are being a bit harsh about the reporting testing without knowledge of the process and protocols. Also things happened rapidly and a huge number of folks seeking tests.

Yes things happened rapidly, but you should have been prepared for that. You were not.

Aotearoa is a small spread out population. We can only support so many test laboratories.

Naive. I wish we had the ability to ramp up as Victoria has done, but the simple reality is that our health system is much less mature than Australia’s. We simply don’t have the capacity you do, we never will (smaller population remember) and our health system was already under-staffed and under-resourced pre-covid and this has not got any better.

We have actually done a pretty good job (albeit imperfect) of ramping up our testing and vaccination capacity given the constraints. We did more than a week’s testing in one day yesterday.

You should also note that a large proportion of our health workforce (ie the people who administer the test) is currently self-isolating as they are close contacts.

Anybody got any good educated guesses why supermarket staff and customers in Auckland all need to self isolate for 14 days (actually every location of interest in Auckland is 14 days, not just supermarkets) when in Wellington it's only ~6 days (until your day 5 test is back).

I'm surprised we suddenly have so much vaccine to dish out.

You probably shouldn’t be - the data released by MoH has indicated a good supply situation for a while now; and even without that level of data, the fact we brought forward the age groups recently-ish would indicate good supply.

sorry it was in jest.

why do we have so many vaccines in storage, i thought it only works if it's inside people

but no i'm not criticizing, coz i don't know there must be a reason why they are in storage. (serious statement)

at least they are being used now.

I was going to suggest risk evaluation given the dates and or current known links

But that also works.

My vaccination booked for tomorrow is cancelled - just got the email saying the vaccination centre will be closed. So I've rebooked for early October. Might have got a new appointment in late September if I'd shopped around for a different vaccination centre, but less convenient for public transport and no guarantee that will be open on that day anyway.

By my count, as of today, there must be at least 4 in Wellington. There's the couple that travelled by car, and there's two flight's that are now LOI.

P.S. I don't think we can be sure of anything at this stage.

Have you checked around local GP clinics & pharmacies in your area. Many are now providing vaccinations and often have times available earlier.

Below are appointments currently showing as available for the week commencing 5 Sept on the H365 website for our local GP clinic.

Of course it may depend on age group?
