Oblivian: Covidiots aside. It's entirely possible

Humans are the factor.

People forget it doesn't have wings or a magic wand that touches you and poof, you're infected

Yep this sometimes gets lost, human behavior is a very big factor in supercharging this in my view.

So B.1.617.2 , Delta has its differences.
However a sector of population that may have kept its heads down in first wave, are not so inclined now.
Politics injected into this has amplified this among certain groups as well. See Florida, Mississippi etc
Murdocks millions of devoted media consumers, influencers finding ready patronage, and unsocial media.
Then a kind of warfare as nations may also have been feeding misinformation to make them look good.

So Australia has another super-spreader event in pointless protests, and when they go back to suburbs or countryside ?
Will it be just Delta, or Delta plus people readily spreading it ?

Our chances are much better if we are the generally more level headed nation we think we are ?

Similar here too. My 15yo son tested on Wednesday and still waiting for his result. He has flu like symptoms.
Finally got email of the result this morning. It is Negative. Yay!!!

I think that is too long to wait if they want to control this. Your son could have been positive , passed covid inside your bubble. You could have been spreading it for 4 days, you've been going to the supermarket, exercise etc. My son still does not have results, and many others have been waiting days too (assuming we are not unique).

There are currently ~19,000 tests awaiting processing. Please be patient.

@surfisup1000 and others waiting for test results: it sucks waiting, I've been there. It makes you very anxious.

However you can rest (somewhat) assured that no news is good news. Generally if the test result comes back positive, this gets reported to the National Investigation and Tracing Centre at Ministry of Health before the result goes elsewhere and you are contacted by phone (and sometimes a text message before the phone call, to let you know a phone call is coming).

Ergo no phone call = no cause for alarm. Eventually negative results will be sent out via text message/email/patient portal/to your GP.

Ideally we would get those negative results out quickly but it's pretty obvious the system is under pressure now - we tested 1% of the entire population in a single day after all. They should however set the expectation around results when taking the sample that you might not hear for a while (they certainly did when i was being tested, but this may have gone by the wayside).

There is a very good article from the BBC this morning which explains the bodies various immune response scenarios to COVID-19 in an easy to understand way.

Covid: What’s the best way to top up our immunity? There are marked differences in your immune system after a natural infection with coronavirus and after vaccination.

tl;dr

vaccinate, get some immune datapoints into the body

followed by allowing repeated infections until you die of old age

I take it that; tl;dr means “Too Long; Didn't Read.”

Mmmm - 1159 word article at an average reading speed of 200/250 wpm = 5.8/4.6 minutes of missing education. 🎓☹️

😀🍷

Whilst the difficult we can do immediately, the impossible takes a bit longer. However, miracles you will have to wait for.

It's brutal. But remember the new 70 order. ALL family members of a potential are classified as potential until cleared with their own 5 day test if positive.

There is no contact, contact-plus. Everyone is being tainted as a contact with this sucker.

You are meant to take in-bubble precautions and isolate them within the household and do what you do to avoid others in public to lower that risk. Even if just ruling it out and not confirmed contact

Will people? I doubt it. But its the only way to keep it from family spread

(Same reasons family bubbles are off the cards this time)

That's only if you or anyone in your bubble has been at an LOI, not if you're just getting a test due to just symptoms.

Err. it actually covers the requirement regardless depending on the phone person. Not just a location

If you get a COVID-19 test, your health professional will tell you whether you need to self-isolate. If they tell you to self-isolate, you legally must do so immediately.

Self-isolation means staying at home and taking common sense precautions to avoid close contact with those you live with.

Yeah, but if you're not a contact via an LOI and not symptomatic, you can still go out for essential reasons.. (Since you haven't had a test and aren't required to stay self isolated UNLESS the tested person was at an LOI)

Yeah we were getting anxious as they told us result should be back within 2 days. We didn't fully isolate him at home as figured if he had it then he would have been infectious in the days before his symptoms started. We ensured he kept a mask on and we all kept up sanitization. But whole family bubble haven't been out anywhere since Wednesday whilst we were waiting for the result. Had enough food etc until at least end of Monday.

If you can't laugh at yourself then you probably shouldn't laugh at others.

It would be understandable if you needed to go out for food.

I don't think this is going to get under control if people are waiting so long for test results.

This has nothing to do with patience, it is that we will not get delta under control if people are having to wait this long for tests.
