and when is Japan going to give up on this fantasy that the Olympics will still go ahead as planned?
geekiegeek:
Agree totally. I think I'll be doing all my work from home by month end as well. I've already decided to ditch public transport (I cycle a few days a week already) and practice social distancing by not going to any form of gathering or having close contact with others - 1.5mtr distance.
The scary part is that this may go on for a year or more according to some experts, even 2 years. - we are currently in the very early stages of this pandemic.
They seem to keep pushing out the date of when a vaccine will be produced. It was 12 months now seems closer to 18 months. But that will probably be limited supply initially.
Apparently a good approach to follow, is go around as though you already have this virus, and don't want to pass it onto anyone else. So you don't shake hands, and keep your distance from people etc.
I notice even now that when someone coughs in public, some people will give them a dirty look.

freitasm: I think a ship with no next destination would be moored in the current host country.
It's going to have to shift from Akaroa. They can't anchor or tie up there, these monstrous things leave their engines running 24/7 and hold position using engines/thrusters etc, destroying the seabed by stirring up silt. More than 100 of them a year. I don't think Chch facilities are back up and running, Dunedin is the nearest port with facilities - they probably don't want it either. For humanitarian reasons - if the suspect case is positive - they need to get everyone off the ship and into quarantine ASAP - but I doubt there's anywhere in the SI that could handle it.
That is likely going to be a big problem for someone if someone on the ship is positive. They are all likely going to have to all be taken off the ship and flown home, because if they remain on the ship, it will likely spread badly.

Looks better for Abe to have the IOC be the ones that pospone or cancel it.
A very good simulation from the Washington Post showing "flattening the curve" in action.

I didn't detect any foul language, cobber. It was just the Trump images that offended me :-)
Handle9: US international airports are in a state of chaos.
Reports in O'Hare are saying 6 hour waits for bags and then another 2-4 for customs.

Is that arrivals. Yeah Chicago is busy and big, but arrivals???? Should be departures. :-)

Asians, who my wife is one, has a HUGE culture. Its a great culture, but in times like these, it can overwhelm reality.
Ill check the TAB for who will bail first, Shinzo or NRL.... There are two certanties in life, taxes, and NRL playing every week in Austraya. As the late and great Tom Petty would sing "I'm not sure which is worse"
Handle9: All US airports are the same. By mandating screening with no resources the entire travel system is broken.
This is almost entirely for US citizens returning from Europe
Just like here. Thanks.
How is this in the Middle East? You are in Dubai? Covid-19 not airports.

Most of the middle East has closed the schools for a month. Saudi, Jordan and Kuwait have stopped all flights and land travel over the border, the UAE has stopped all new visas until April. That effectively means no tourists or business trips to the UAE unless you already have a visa issued.
Cinemas, night clubs and sport events are all banned/closed.
There are around 85 reported cases here, by next week there will be 500
IIRC your wife is involved at a/the school? In any case take care
