ronw:

it's not that hard and if you use IRD or most other Govt Departments its makes sense to have one id that can be used in all sites

ObidiahSlope:

I researched the rigmarole to get a RealMe ID and went nah! can't be bothered.

The Ministry of Health's decision to require RealMe in the first place is nuts.

Surely, if the objective is to make it as easy and as transparent as possible for the most number of people to register at the most number of locations ...

... the last thing you would do is put in place a process as onerous as applying for a passport.

(and yet they did!)

I don't get it. Why have to login? Why not have a public list of businesses, just select your business from the list and it generates the poster for you? Is there some security / privacy reason that I missed?

No.

I was originally very supportive of app, in principle, when released. But implementation has been a bureaucratic mess.

I've given up on it, will rely on Google Maps location monitoring.

@dafman the Real Me is a business requirement from MBIE, not MoH.

There seems to be a new simplified process in place now as detailed here in a newsletter to general practitioners:

"As you will know, the Ministry of Health's is now available, and practices are encouraged to a download QR code posters so patients can scan themselves when they enter your premises.

The Ministry has now simplified the process for generating QR code posters. Simply complete this and name it under your organisations name, e.g.'[Organisation Name] - Bulk upload.' Email the file to from your business email, including your position title and a declaration that you have the permission to send this data on behalf of your organisation and any other organisations listed in the file.

The Ministry of Health team will prepare your posters for you and will then email the contacts you've listed for your organisation(s) with a link to open and download the posters. Print and display the posters prominently in your practice(s).

The 1PM update has confirmed they are working to simplify the code printing per above across the board.

Applying online via email/notification where difficulty found and the agency will direct send you a pre-printable PDF

He said more details around that to follow in the printed release. So someones listening to the complaints.

Let's see how easy:

1. Log onto mbie.govt.nz

2. Various Covid-related links, but scrolling down see link for getting more info on tracing QR code. I click on it

3. I'm now on business.govt.nz. No QR information, but one link saying COVID-19 Government information for businesses. I click on it

4. Ok, now I find myself on business.govt.nz/covid-19. I scroll down, yet another link - Contract tracing with NZ COVID tracer app. Find out more. I click link

5. Yep, now on another new page, this one business.govt.nz/covid-19/contact-tracing/. Hallelujah, I see a link title Create your QR code poster ... I click on it ...

6. Now on another page with title: Create your QR Code posters with Business Direct. Another link! Login to Business Connect to start creating your posters ... I click on it

7. I'm now on the Realme login page.

I give up. Men in white coats comfort me.

And they've simplified it?

Talk about jump the gun

"He said more details around that to follow in the printed release"

You're still looking at the original instructions from a few weeks ago. Also look at post above mine, Some businesses only need to populate a spreadsheet and a single entity is taking care of them.

I'd had a look after reading the Herald report that said "He said businesses getting a QR code had been streamlined, and businesses could find it on the Ministry of Business Innovation and Employment website." So, reading this, I assumed they had done it.

I've returned to work on Lambton Quay today. Been looking, yet to see my first QR code.

Its Still a pig's breakfast,

The "streamlined" procedure is to Email the ministry of Health

https://www.health.govt.nz/our-work/diseases-and-conditions/covid-19-novel-coronavirus/covid-19-novel-coronavirus-resources-and-tools/nz-covid-tracer-app/nz-covid-tracer-qr-codes#posters

"If you are unable to generate your official QR code posters through Business Connect, we may be able to generate your posters for you - email the team at tracingapp-feedback@health.govt.nz. We will phone you to verify your identity and will ask you to complete a template with:

  • the name of your business/organisation and the NZBN (if any)
  • address information for each of your premises
  • an email address for each premises (ie, the person who will print the poster)

Is there a test QR code anywhere?  I've only seen one govt QR code in the wild, and my phone app wouldn't scan it.  Image appeared on screen, and I lined up the code within the frame, but then nothing.  When scanning 3rd party QR codes, the govt app correctly informed me these were not the correct type.

There is a big one on the MoH website

https://www.health.govt.nz/our-work/diseases-and-conditions/covid-19-novel-coronavirus/covid-19-novel-coronavirus-resources-and-tools/nz-covid-tracer-app/nz-covid-tracer-qr-codes

Scans as "allfields" who appear to be the developer

OK, same thing (nothing) happening with that QR code either, so looks to be something on my phone.  Reinstalled the app, and it has Camera permission.  Android 7.1.1 (yeah, I know...)

Maybe not your phone @GregV. I downloaded my QR code and the app to my phone early in the piece. I checked the QR code on my phone and it worked fine. Since then the app has updated to v 1.0.2 and when I tried the QR code referenced above it didn't work. Likewise, when I retried my own code - nothing. Maybe v2 is buggy?

Edit - As you were, just tried my QR code again and it works this time. Still wont scan the one on my screen....
