Well damn.  Futures trading on the NY indices opened down 4 - 5%.

Actually - might be worse than that - I think it's tripped the circuit breaker / trade suspended.

We'll see.  Hold on to your hat.

NZX -3.16% right now.  (Holding up okay - we didn't get the "Trump pump and bump" on Friday)

ASX futures still look positive and that's after a huge swing from 8% down on Friday to end 4% up..

I'm mainly watching QANTAS today.

Ummmmm.....

Maybe you should look again - unless I'm seeing things.

Down almost 7% 12 minutes after opening - unless I got my monitor upside down.

I had the issue this morning where I looked at NZX and thought 4.9% wasn't a bad start, but then realised that was Friday close.

E: I think it's politely called 'operator error'.

From UK

"People aged over 70 face up to four months in self-isolation and the public risk being taken into jail or a £1,000 (NZ$2,000) fine if they refuse to be tested or quarantined for suspected coronavirus.

The emergency powers, expected to be announced this week, allow police in England and Wales to use ‘reasonable force’ to detain people who are at risk of infecting others." (My bold addendum)

Along the lines of this would be a start, article today on tourist businesses facing many cancellations

Dolphin Encounter was among Kaikoura businesses to get a wage subsidy of $500 per full time worker per week after the 2016 earthquakes and Buurman said getting that again would help.

The company was also looking at putting together deals to appeal to the local domestic tourism market.

i think we should call University of Otago public health professor Michael Baker, the prophet of Doom . Every depressing news article that says an expert said, you can almost guarantee it's him.

Common sense is not as common as you think.

The problem is, they might learn that life with the church doesn't go on...

Worst typo ever by Stuff

Destiny Church is not afraid of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) and will remain open amid the outbreak, outspoken Bishop Brain Tamaki has declared.

I don't really see dolphin watching as an essential business that should receive financial support. In my opinion I believe any assistance packages should aimed at business that are providing essential services or supporting essential services.

The UK will be a complete bloodbath unless Boris changes his mind.  The concept that you can quarantine the 70+ age group and let the pandemic wash through the rest of the community over a 4 month period - until you have "herd immunity" (or a vaccine) is unbelievably stupid - and he's been told that by experts.  Not only will it fail to protect the over 70s, but many under 70s will die miserable deaths because they have no hope of getting medical care - for anything.

Quite simple if Boris continues with this lunacy the a large number of deaths occur he should be charged with crimes against humanity.
