Have you got the "Rippl" tracing app installed?, it can also read MoH QRs
I will try Rippl on the next govt one I see - Rippl does not recognise the one linked above however

It does on my ios version, so the QR does work...
I find scanning off a screen can be a bit twitchy, so you could print it out,
Android app definitely works as expected. Have used it at a grand total of two different places though!
RealMe is a pain in the backside. I do have an account but last time I tried to use it it complained that I haven't completed the verification process or something. Managed to get my last passport processed using it but not sure if it is now working properly as I'm not sure whether getting a passport is enough to activate it 'fully'? Luckily IRD is still accepting logins using legacy user/passwords... Once they go to RealMe only for logins I'll probably look into RealMe more and visit the post office to see how it can be fixed up properly.
GregV: What Android version do you have? I've seen FB replies saying older Android versions used to work until the govt app was updated. Apparently there are plans to support older Android versions
Android 9 PKQ1.180904.001
Probably recent enough to have support.

What is the point of having a supported version if no businesses are putting up QR codes.
Seriously, I'm not trolling; someone with the appropriate authority needs to put their hand up now and and say we got this wrong.
A simple fix. Develop a new website for businesses with just two required inputs:
- name of business
- business address.
After which, download QR poster. It can be that simple, and if it was maybe there would be greater business uptake than current, which is pretty much nil.
That is what should have happened in the first place. The MBIE could then just match up the data at a later date if they really needed to. I suspect it's a case of trying to capture better quality info (as RealMe etc ensures the data is accurate) but at the expense of timeliness and ease of use.
Playstore average review of 1.6 from 1179 reviews from 100,000 or so installs
That reflects a poor app with negligible uptake even if every business had the govt codes
Has anyone done an OIA to ascertain how much tax payer money has been spent so far?
Unfortunately it seems so far the purpose of the app is to say there is a govt app and little more

Playstore reviews are utter rubbish sometimes. In this case doesn't seem to be different. Some people comments show they expect it to be a "digital diary" where they manually enter locations. Other people want it to get location from GPS. Some people complain about having to scan a QR code.
That's how the app works. Obviously some people didn't grasp the concept and then give low ratings.

I agree Playstore reviews like any reviews can be and are subjective. Average score aside I still feel many of the playstore reviews (like many in this forum have articulated) reflect a poor app and poor uptake plan. Note from memory the Govt was/is often calling it a "digital diary"
I can't see it winning any awards soon, well at least the current v1.x version

Maybe what we need is a third-party app that does the same thing but sucks less. That was the case with the Auckland Transport app vs. the official AT Mobile app, it was so much better than the official app that AT were forced to make their one less bad to compete. I still prefer the third-party Auckland Transport app, it's less comprehensive than the updated AT Mobile app but the first thing it gives you is "what time is the next bus going past my selected bus stop" which is what I use the app for 99% of the time.
