Batman:

I have personally discovered a few antivax social media forwarders who are actually vaccinated. True story

:( yes I know these people personally. Have told them to stop posting. But the damage... They think it's funny.

I think some people have issues with experts or authorities telling them to do anything... so they take the opposite stance by default.

But, they also might be overweight with high blood pressure and in their 50's with a higher chance of dying from covid, and long covid not much fun either .  And, despite their arguments, they know the vaccine works. The evidence is too strong to debate.

One of my UK friends tested positive to covid yesterday , sweats, aching ribs, fever, cough, but, at this stage, just fine. Whole family has it, including kids, so he caught off them.

Its a shame the vaccine didn't offer more protection against infection.

Batman: White House says "next few weeks"

Pretty sure media said in a few weeks a few weeks ago.

https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2021/oct/20/covid-vaccine-children-ages-5-11-white-house

The White House doesn’t make the decision. The FDA does.

The reason to have an independent agency for this sort of thing was obvious when the marmalade moron was in charge.

quickymart:

I didn't see a lot of support for him on Facebook - maybe 1 post in 10 saying he was doing the right thing. Overwhelmingly everyone else was unimpressed, so I dunno why he thinks he speaks for New Zealand (he certainly doesn't speak for me).

I wouldn't even let him on my property, much less let him speak for me!!

Now they have the Senile Dribbler, so the reason still holds true.

A key FDA meeting is scheduled for the 26th of October, and another for Nov 2 & 3.

https://www.wmky.org/post/approval-pfizer-vaccine-kids-5-11-likely-soon

I think the white house is preempting a possibly (likely given positive trail results?) approval by the FDA, and have procured the Kids doses (different formulation, will have orange cap), and have set out a distribution plan so they are ready to hit the ground running if / when the approval is granted.

Pfizer has also submitted data to Canada for assessment.

Pity we haven't been asked to evaluate it yet. Fingers crossed for it being available by the end of the year, but days are ticking away.

Given it is a different formulation, we will have procure it too (and may well be left with excessive adult pfizer doses)

I'm really puzzled by this also since I first read about the details a few weeks ago (can't find the original story I read but here's one that gives a lot of details https://www.aappublications.org/news/2021/10/08/pfizer-pediatric-covid-vaccine-prep-100821).

The govt keep speaking like they're planning on using our current vaccine supply - Hipkins (and I'm pretty sure I heard the PM say the same thing) keep saying we have plenty of doses and that with the smaller dosage it will mean the current vials go further. The problem is Pfizer made it pretty clear these vaccines will be different, and the current vaccine won't be approved for under 12s so there is no way we can use them.

UK Health minister says they may be looking at 100,000 cases per day (currently around 40-50,000) and asks people to consider using masks, social distancing and hand sanitizer.

Horse and bolted comes to mind.

Is it a different formula or just packaged to make it easier to load the syringes with the correct dose?

"However, the formulation of the vaccine itself is the same, Antoniou (Pfizer Canada) confirmed to Global News in an emailed statement.

Drawing up pediatric doses from the existing vials for the adults is not recommended “for a number of reasons”, Dr. Theresa Tam, Canada’s chief public health officer, said during a news conference Friday."

In terms of vaccination numbers, our daily first dose numbers are getting pritty bad now. Just 10,300 on Tuesday...

Really it is pritty much essential we get NSW levels of better of vaccination. (currently they are 92.5% of 16+ with first dose, 82.3% of 16+ with both). Even then we are no starting to see a firm upwards trend in their case numbers over the last few day's, so that may not even be enough.

Fridays vaccine pass announcement need to have serious teeth. For example:

  • Require vaccination for all state employees  (IRD, WINZ, Police etc).
  • Require vaccination to access all retail and hospitality (excepting stuff that operates in level 4).
  • Allow businesses to set their own customer / client vaccination mandates beyond the above (all industries) if they choose.
  • Allow any business to put in place a vaccine mandate without the hoops of a risk assessment etc.
  • Require vaccination to pass through a checkpoint between alert levels (higher than 2).

NSW daily case numbers (opening up date was 11th oct)

21 Oct 21    374
20 Oct 21    283
19 Oct 21    273
18 Oct 21    266
17 Oct 21    301
16 Oct 21    321
15 Oct 21    400
14 Oct 21    407
13 Oct 21    446
12 Oct 21    360
11 Oct 21    498

The existence of a pediatric formulation seems to have only gone public in the last few weeks. Possible Hopkins wasn't aware of this.

Seems unlikely we would go against pfizers recommendation, and just draw smaller doses from the adult vials.

There is a chance that pfizer is going to look after us (or that our contract conditions require the delivered doses to match our population age profile). Given we put in an order for a vaccine course for every person in our population, it would be disappointing if pfizer just delivered 5m (12+ year old) course, and required us to order more doses for the kiddies. That said, we can afford it, and either donate, or use our extra adult doses as boosters. Hopefully the lead time is short though. As with the rest of the world, we need this ASAP.

I'm seriously hoping they didn't hold back on the Police requirement because they've already pitched it internally & found out it would turn out like Chicago, i.e. where 35% of cops are refusing to even mention their status. It would be awful if there were that many munters on the force here.

I've come across one vocal kiwi ex cop on Linked-in for the anti-vaxer camp. So many psychopaths on Linked-in lol.

We are struggling with MIQ places, so Australia puts the boot in ?
Would be difficult to do home isolation as they will be essentially homeless, in a housing crisis.
No word in story about vaccinating them while they have them, or vaccination status.

Someone with twisted logic if you ask me.

https://www.stuff.co.nz/southland-times/126684315/school-teacher-i-wont-be-getting-covid19-jab

But if she “caved” and got the vaccine it would go against her teaching beliefs, she said.

She believed the no vaccine mandate was sending a message to kids that teachers were easily bullied.

And as the head of English and social sciences at her school, she taught her students to stand up for their beliefs.

She would no longer be able to stand in front of her students and teach them about “freedom and choice and democracy” if she received the jab, she said.

“I can’t look them in the eyes If I get this jab because it goes against everything I believe in, and I teach kids they need to stand up for what’s right.”

Easily bullied, really what a lot of horse s**t.

Is she not teaching them that democracy is also about consensus and compromise?

Is she not teaching her students about how their rights and freedoms can impact other people and when that happens they need to think about what is right? If she isn't doing this she is just teaching them to be selfish, just like she is.

I guess if if having the jab for the greater good of the community goes against her beliefs then we really don't need her teaching our future generations.

There really will be limited ability for people to retain their "private medical information" when it comes to functioning in society going forward. Whilst people have a right to privacy and who knows their personal medical info, the mere existence and use of something like the covid passport essentially releases that to the world.

Go to a restaurant and you will know everyone else there is double jabbed, and likewise, they will know you are.

As posted a few pages back by one member, if a tradesman comes to your house, you will know their vaccination status. This seems largely unavoidable.

There is an inherent right to privacy between an employer and an employee where certain personal information is held and not disclosed. With various industries under vaccine mandates and this likely spreading further, this will no longer be the case.

At the end of the day though, does this really matter? Is it a big deal that if by mere location or occupation it is "known" that you are vaccinated, does it interfere with your daily life?

Biggest issue will be those that aren't, it might get awful cold and lonely out on that peninsula those holding out for an alternative, or flatly refusing "the experiment"...
