Wow, ok. I feel you need to be serious. You dont need to agree with anyone, but please be serious. Serious post, its getting ridiculous. Greater than the population of NZ has died, and you are talking about this?

I know a few "normal" people. I still can't get over how many are anti. One, who is conspiracy theorist  has got his first jab. That surprised me maybe his lovely gf pushed him to it. Then I hear she is anti. She is lovely, fit, a lovely person, so if she is anti, I give up. Leave them to it I guess, we cannot hang around for 8 years to  pick the high hanging fruit.

As is the case everywhere, its not now a pandemic, its an epidemic of the unvaccinated. There comes a time where we cannot help the helpless.

Same. One of my best mates is the sweetest, kindest, most generous person you could imagine. He is also very bright. Yet he has bought into this crap 100%. I find that so depressing and difficult to reconcile.

I agree 1000%. I battle on trying to do that. If ONE says "ok I will get a jab" Im happy. But Im still bewildered by the "normal" people I know that are anti. And when we get 185 cases next Thursday, they will largely be the epidemic of the unvaccinated as is the case overseas. At least here in GodZone, we are holding on.

We have had about 28 deaths? Many of those were in a previous outbreak(s)  that hit rest homes. Imagine if those visits of infected visitors did not happen. We could have single digit deaths. Thats no accident. One is too many. But what we have protected seems out weighed by many posts here.

I have a workmate like that, salt of the Earth. I stopped interacting with him for quite some time. When I hear " if your are old, or have issues, get jabbed and stay home" My freaking God. One other poster here talked about his ex-friend. I can see a time when I call time. Sorry, bye.

lchiu7: Looks like the government is going to require everyone who's a non-citizen coming into New Zealand to be doubly vaccinated.

https://covid19.govt.nz/alert-levels-and-updates/latest-updates/new-vaccination-requirement-for-non-citizen-travellers-to-new-zealand/

They list here the set of vaccines recognized.

https://covid19.trackvaccines.org/vaccines/approved/#vaccine-list

I didn't know there were 22 and it's not clear from their website what sort of documentation they will require to show that the vaccine shot they took was genuine.

As vaccine effectiveness looks to decrease after 5-6 months (the UKs jump in cases is partly blamed on this), I am surprised that any vaccine requirement wouldn't require the vaccine to have been administered within this period, or a boaster being required if the vaccination was outside 5-6 months?

The word "boaster" appears a lot here /failspellcheck  :-)

UK went early, before vaxxes were a tool. But you are right, not managed, as Boris's choice was economy based. We will be in the same boat but at least we will TRY to have a better vaccine regime, higher % and boosters at the ready. I was going to post a link to an article that mentioned other like countries, population wise, and poster child wise. We are not in a hairs breadth of cases and deaths. But NZ is generally bagged by Kiwis here, so I didn't bother.

The decision what vaccines we recognize is a challenging decision for each country.

Needs to balance the following:

  • Effectiveness of vaccines (i.e. moderna more effective than J+J and sinovac...)
  • If requirement will be overly onerous for travelers - Many countries only have limited brands of vaccine available, and many (including NZ) are yet to approve booster shots. In some jurisdictions it is illegal to get re-vaccinated with another brand even if it is available.
  • Ethics given Globally vaccine is still in short supply. Requiring people vaccinated with say Sputnik V (an effective vaccine) to re-vaccinate with another brand (if allowed in their location) essentially wastes a course of vaccine.

We are not the first country to go through this.

China initially only was accepting their domestically made vaccines, but subsequently added the western Pfizer-BioNTech, Moderna and Johnson & Johnson brands to the list.

USA initially was only going to accept FDA approved vaccines, but now has expanded the list to include the WHO approved vaccines.

I think at this stage, accepting all vaccines that have been approved by any country is the most ethical outcome.

who is to say one vaccine is how much better / how much worse than the other

none of them have ever been compared head to head in the same location

even our vaccine isn't good after a while apparently, reading from what people are saying on this page alone

That's not exactly correct. Many countries have used multiple vaccines.

I wonder if the anti-vaxxers have thought about the impact on any Life Insurance/Income protection etc  they may have either personally or through the workplace, I am sure that a Covid related death or Long Covid and no vaccine will be like mana from heaven for the insurers to turn down claims

Kinda like someone saying "It's my body and my choice to smoke 60 a day" so the Insurer says "That's another 10% on your premiums, thank-you.".

I prefer a car insurance analagy.

"It's my life and my choice to drive at 150 through every speed camera."

"Certainly is sir. Please be aware we're declining to renew your cover. Good luck in finding another insurer."
