Team of 3 million by any chance?

Are you disputing the flouting and family/neighbour intermingling that has kept  the vast majority of compliant AKL locked down so long?

No, in one of the modest number of times I’ve posted in this thread, I’ve said that very thing myself.

Its just there appears to be a bigger appetite for ever more stringent measures depending which side of the moat you are on. I would suggest if you live in Christchurch, try not leaving your home except to go to the supermarket and survive on the wage subsidy until Christmas.

Im quite familiar with being locked down, also familiar with being locked down when Covid is not in the SI for 348 days, but it is what it is. These traffic lights are there to give you the way out of lockdown, I don't see that as stringent. But the divisiveness isn't the way to go IMO. Its not your fault or mine its like this right now. Its those that spread it by not complying.

I'm not a team player. That's any team BTW.

When I hear any moaning about lockdowns I wonder what our older parents and grandparents must think. They, having experienced the hardship of 2 world wars among other things, would wonder what all the fuss was about.

8 or 10 weeks without a lattte or seeing your friends/family? Try years of deprivation and apart from loved ones, wondering if they would ever come back. In a lot of cases they didn't.

Try watching the documentary The World at War to see what 'doing the hard yards' actually means.

I dont think that's a very fair response. My issue is only that just because someone isn't in AKL, that doesnt mean that they don't care.

Firstly, this is a terrible post. It's only an avocado on toast mention away from being a lazy boomer meme.

Secondly, just because other people had a really crappy time getting sacrificed for nobility or being cannon fodder to stop genocidal maniacs doesn't mean no one else ever gets to complain about being put in a crappy situation.

I agree about the hardship of the two World Wars but I don't believe that's an appropriate comparison to what we are experiencing at the moment.

Our problems are being driven by non compliance, civil disobedience, FUD, and to some extent a lack of cohesion and a lack of understanding of the various demographics by the MOH for the vaccine roll out. 80-90% are doing the hard yards but are being let down by the rest.

In war time the non compliance, civil disobedience and FUD would be dealt with very firmly. There wouldn't be any. Remember "conscientious objectors" were rounded up and interred. There was no tolerance for anyone who wasn't puling their weight. As for something like vaccinations in time of war, there would be a cohesive roll out programme and anyone refusing to be vaccinated would be rounded up and interred like a conscientious objector.

In short we wouldn't be faced with this long Covid tail that is causing the long drawn out lockdown and frustration for so many.

As far as I can work out this entire "Traffic light" system is a Giant carrot and stick to cajole people to get vaccinated, and it will take away freedoms unvaxxed people currently have....

Here is one example... I'm sure their are others,

Currently those of us outside Auckland at level 2 can go to the gym and get a hair cut, to keep ourselves svelte and trimmed, all irrespective of our vaccination status....

BUT, once we get to 90% fully vaxxed (communally more protected) - we go to Orange

"For the rest of the country, once every DHB hits 90 percent double vaccinated we anticipate we will move collectively, together, to orange"
https://www.beehive.govt.nz/speech/covid-19-protection-framework

However at Orange "These places will not be able to operate without a vaccine certificate requirement:"

  • Events (indoor/outdoor)
  • Gyms
  • Close contact businesses

https://covid19.govt.nz/alert-levels-and-updates/covid-19-protection/

BUT if you aren't vaxxed under orange you will not be able to get into a gym or hair salon...

SO  If you are like me, a bit portly and long haired, make sure you are not mistaken for being unvaxxxed :)

I also imagine most businesses will opt for vax only. Its "good" Its safer for prospective customers and the more encouragement, the more jabs, the safer we all are

Have to wait and see the fallout, riots, complaints from the holdouts.

We are moving from locking down a nation or a region where everyo9ne is penalised, even the good people, to locking down the risker population and benefitting the general population.

Try having your mother die alone in Waikato Hospital, while your fully vaccinated (and tested) sister sits 5km away unable to be there.

Only once you get to the coveted "90%" traffic light system....

Until then unvaccinated regions can basically prevent the rest of the country moving forward.

Case in point, there is a media article that the West Coast DHB are saying it will be really hard to make 90% as over 2% of their pop live at Gloriavale, putting them behind the 8 ball before they start...

Without the west coast the south island can't make 90, without the south island making 90, everywhere outside Auckland is also stuck...   - the "all DHBs" requirement will have to be changed

Hence the "announcement" on the 29th Nov.

Most DHB's won't get to 90% fully vaxxed so I'd imagine we'll see some loosening before December

And Hence the building Anger,

We  had an announcement On Monday to say there was going to be an announcement today that then told us the announcement was on November 29....

That's 6 weeks more of lockdowns for Auckland, (which is 74% fully vaxxed) - while Melbourne just ended theirs at 70%....

The pot in Auckland must be more than close to boiling over...

I think that the major difference is that in the first lockdown the whole of the country was locked down. When you start dividing the country, even when the reason for this is well justified, the part that is more locked down will be more resentful and possibly this could lead to less compliance- hasten to add our family has completely obayed all that was asked of us.

When the Prime Minister said "team of five million" this Friday, my initial thought was "yeah right"

@freitasm Thanks was aware of the negative aspects of Aspirin.

Great link though and did the calculation. Aspirin over a 5 year period gave me only a 2% chance of bleeding both with and without aspirin and a 4% chance of avoiding a cardiac episode with aspirin as opposed to a 5% chance of having an event, without Aspirin, so in my case a decent result. I’ve been considering it for longer term so it was good to try the link and will discuss with GP.
