Looking at the map there are an awful lot of people in walking distance of vaccination in my area.
When you include vaccination opportunities close to where Supermarkets and Liquor stores are more so.

In my part of Auckland access is not the issue, really active procrastination and roundtuits ?
Given its mobile younger folk leading the wrong end of statistics.

I can understand outside big cities its much harder for people, Auckland seems well served.
Every % is money in the bank so worth it even with the extra effort to drag them out of their self absorption.

Fancy end of town like where the weekend 'influencer party' 50 people at least.
My what is the rent on that mansion ? Redvale is now with highest positivity rates !

App and vaccine certification must be a bit of a nightmare for developers, given the effort that will go into breaking it.
A security researcher broke the Australian system early on, EU, Israel, Russia etc have had their troubles.

What happens in Bulgaria and Romania when your breakthrough infection is not being vaccinated in first place.?

So I have 21% to go to reach the 90%. I can't see that being reached with out a good strong incentive as media, Facebook, TV, Vax Saturdays haven't worked.

Batman: I have a suggestion. Level 4 for everybody until 90% in your region then level 2, no vax no benefit, no vax no govt payments, no bad higher tax rate... Etc

What about adding in removal of tax free status for any organizations that don't support and encourage vaccination?

Peters now apologises in relation to Mongrel Mob allegations:

Stuff: Former deputy prime minister Winston Peters has apologised for comments he made on national television alleging former Mongrel Mob member Harry Tam helped a Covid-positive case breach the Auckland border.

JPNZ:

Indeed, 80% fully vaccinated would have been a far better target IMHO. 90% fully vaccinated NZ wide is nothing short of a myth

I have to say the Govt feels out of touch with a certain portion of kiwis in assuming that is achievable. However saying "here's what will happen if you don't get vaccinated"... should actually push a lot people to get the jab so here's hoping.

The problem... saying it today proves Labour gambled and lost on a strategy. Because there is no logical excuse for not giving that firm message two months ago, and that makes the Govt look utterly incompetent.

As has been previously mentioned here. The unvaccinated currently have more freedoms than they will under the traffic light system and all the pushing that has been going on I'm sure those who were going to get it would have by now so I don't see today's announcement as much of a push.

I think the government has lost the information war to some extent. For example I saw a video a month or so ago which was about the use of masks, basically saying the use of masks wasn't achieving anything. It was very convincing and after watching it you were very likely to be questioning the value of masks. It didn't help that there were clips of Jacinda Ardern and Ashley Bloomfield explaining why masks were of no value. These clips were from the very early days of the pandemic before they decided masks were indeed useful. Search for "Ashley Bloomfield, Michelle Dickinson, Jacinda Ardern demonstrating masks"

Flip flops like this don't help getting the message across.

There are other similar anti vax videos and information that need to be countered.

I see masks like the mud flaps on a truck or car, they don't stop the water spray but they help reduce it. Just like hand washing may not stop the spread of Covid but the spread is certainly reduced. Social distancing doesn't stop the spread but it reduces it. The vaccine dosn't stop the spread of the virus but it significantly reduces the spread of the virus. By using these and other measures in tandem with each other we effectively reduce the R number, which I liken to removing the kindling needed to start a fire. If there isn't enough kindling the fire goes out and cannot grow or spread. These measures are like a fire break.

I don''t think the the whole picture as been well explained. For example a lot of people seem to think that because masks don't stop the spread of the virus therefore they are a waste of time. I think there needs to be a series of cartoon like presentations explaining how things like masks, hand washing reduce the spread of the virus and how when they are all used together the virus can be brought under control.

As a matter of interest it was found that during WWII that cartoons/picture stories were the best way to provide training on technical aspects of weapons for the troops. I think they would work very well to spread the necessary information to combat Covid. Perhaps it's a bit late in the game but still worth a try.

Or better still, pay for the hospital or ICU treatment, for people who haven't been vaccinated but are able to be. Obviously a percentage of vaccinated are also going to need to be hospitalized too, but they obviously would get free treatment as normal. It would be similar to people paying for Covid MIQ who have to pay in certain circumstances. I do wonder how insurance is going to deal with those who aren't getting vaccinated, including health insurers, or even life insurers.

Good lord what’s next!

Pay for your own lung cancer treatment if you are a smoker?

Pay for your melanoma treatment if you didn’t use sunscreen?

Pay for coronary or diabetic care because you went to Maccas too often?

You are starting down a very slippery slope with that suggestion.

And by the way, what’s happened to Levels 3.2 and 3.3 for Auckland when it’s reached 90% first jabs? Now who was it that said that?
