Oblivian: But what happens when you flip that, to the likes of that cafe up North that was making vaccinated people sit outside. if they turn around and say they're not going to custom anyone who has been..

Imo an idiot with a running mouth who won't be doing it for real anyway. He already shot his business by advertising it as a covid friendly hotspot imo. This kind of thing can be popular on Facebook. In real life not actually.

A bit difficult running a business where you choose your customers from a passport. Methinks It will never work. Businesses are there to make money not pick and choose their customers according to the current virus vax. Shopkeepers work hard and need as many people as they can through the door. The meek will turn and leave when refused entry, but, how many of the nasty, aggressive will a shopkeeper cope with? I don’t want to be sitting in a cafe etc while there is an altercation at the door that could turn violent.

In Greece when the rule of vaccine passports came in for entertainment and cafes. The anti vaxers would picnic on the pavement outside the shop just to make a point. A lot of business owners refused to vet customers because they didn’t want to become vax police. After all the lockdowns and loss of profits for two years, it’s a lot to ask of business owners to become policemen.

I agree a lot of people will break the rules.  That's why we need 90% vaccination before the system kicks in - to take up the slack from the cheats.

It will be hard to cheat on things like flights and ferries though which will seriously effect some of the un-vaccinated.

If big budget festivals are risking their permits to operate I expect they will comply quite well too.

It works very well in Europe. To sit inside at a cafe or bar you need to have had a test within 48 hours or be vaccinated.

The police come and check from time to time so the business owners are motivated to follow the rules.

Or why are people allowed to cross the border without being vaccinated, including essential workers. People have now had enough time. It increases the risk to all NZers.

I thought I read that he/she/they were on an exemption but i cannot verify that. If you are in L2 you can go where you like? I.e. 4 metres from the Waikato border to anywhere?

Some antivax are pushing natural immunity. At 0.11% cases so far in NZ, that will take a while?

Go for gold. As Moh or Govt has already stated, 90% is not locked in stone, might be 89.9% might be 85.9%

Oblivian:

I guess their out will be that they can refuse to trade with somebody as it's a private place. But the govt is essentially backing no vax no trade, but not the flip of vax, no trade. So with that cafe as an example will be interesting to see another divisible fight rise.

Isn't the business support also tied to whether you could in theory be fully open if you were checking vaccination certificates? Robertson strongly signalled he didn't want that extra funding going to businesses who could be fully open but were choosing not to.

I'm guessing that most cafes etc are going to struggle if they're a) only going to support a very small portion of their potential market and b) intend on actually complying with those increased restrictions for businesses who choose not to check for vaccine passports etc.

My guess is that a huge number that go down the a) route will end up conveniently thumbing their nose at b) and end up also trying to claim the support they shouldn't be getting under the traffic light system.

I posted a link that was ONE business. he was keen as on vax certs. Makes total sense. 90% are certified, and most people would opt for an vexed environment.

Id see it another way. the customer base is circa 90% of people. 10% of them will be shamed. As they will stand out. Now, this is not a skin colour, religion, etc issue its a HEALTH issue. If I was going to a cafe, and there was the free for all cafe we love anti vaxxers, or the we only serve vaxxed people (90% of us) I know who Id choose.

Due to lockdown, I haven't been able to visit my grandmother in her care home but they've allowed us to drop off a phone to keep in touch. She's 90 years old, so I want to buy her a simple flip phone only for calling.

Does anybody have experience with Alcatel 30.82 Flip Phone? I specifically need to know if you can answer and end calls by simply opening and closing the phone - no buttons required (I need it to be dead simple for my grandma). Or any other recommendations/advice for a similar situation would be greatly appreciated.

Sorry if this is slightly off topic. I just know this thread is quite active and hoping for a quicker answer. Cheers.

Rikkitic:

What the anti-vaxers have demonstrated again and again, is that they will seize upon any excuse to reject vaccination. Chlorine cures it, then horse medicine, then something else. All reasons to avoid vaccination. Waiting for a different/better vaccine is just more of the same bullshit, another delaying tactic. The anti-vaxers seem to see this as some kind of game. This is also evident in the nasty devious tactics employed to confuse people on-line. It is not a matter of thinking there are other ways to save lives. It is a matter of winning at all costs, regardless of how many people that kills. This in itself is a mental illness that ought to be grounds for solitary confinement.

My partners brother was put in a ward for saying less crazy stuff than some of these antivaxxers.

It says "Network Locked: Yes" so you will only be able to use it on a specific operator - just check which one before you buy it.

She hasn't been a presenter for years. I suspect she misses being in the media so is trying to get attention again.

Yeah but this won't prevent idiots parroting her words - including the Herald.

"Former NZ television presenter Liz Gunn claims earthquake was Mother Nature's response to Jacinda Ardern's Covid-19 announcement"

No words. What a load of stupid.

I just read that.

I cannot relate to that because I’m not capable of imagining myself to be that dim. How does someone like that get allowed out without a carer?!

There are easier ways. Well, more constructive ones at least.
