Geektastic: They're losing control. It's becoming more obvious each passing day.

.....Agreed. They're losing hearts and minds of folks in Auckland

Being in Auckland,I'm starting to lose my mind with this unending lockdown.

Are the tests this inaccurate?

The case is a fully-vaccinated person who recently travelled from overseas, stayed in an Auckland managed isolation and quarantine facility, and then travelled to Christchurch after being released, the Ministry of Health said in a statement.

The person returned multiple negative tests while in MIQ, including one on day 12 of their stay. The person got another test on Thursday, which returned a positive result on Friday night.

The back of my mind is once again questioning if we are seeing wide effect. of vaccination vs direct exposure coming to light.

If it turns out the person left AKL MiQ and didn't direct flight to CHC. But had a quick stop to see any friends and family (much like the original CHC case likely did in the last days pre flight)

I'm looking at the 160 count, with over half unlinked. And the number of suburbs now seeing cases, no mention of supermarkets - places where you are generally on your own and masked up being flagged low-mid concern. And going.. what is the chance it's rampant enough, via mostly asymptomatic-ness (in those higher rate areas) that if you visit wider family without treating it like a supermarket that there's high chance you're playing roulette to be tagged now.

Basically, what we are going to see when we finally get those targets and get back to mixing more.

I expect with Police at borders and dealing with MIQ escapees etc.
Our force being a bit thin on the ground, there is not much for enforcement ?

Police arrived two days later and gave what they later described to Harnett as an “education talk” with the neighbors.

It would appear some of the wording is so loose they're actually powerless beyond public threat from them being instated

As seen by the restaurant staff down here wearing DIY exemption cards rather than masks.. The only ones that reported they might do something. Was worksafe to see if they are meeting safety and give them a pointed finger

A police spokesperson said mask exemption cards were not required under the Health Order, and those who were exempt from wearing a face covering did not have to provide evidence of this.

They said police will investigate reports of people failing to wear a face covering on a case-by-case basis.

“Police encourage people to do the right thing and comply with the requirements in place for the safety of everyone.”

--

WorkSafe would contact the Lotus-Heart “in due course to ensure it is aware of and complying with all its Covid-19 responsibilities”, the spokesperson said.

If it wasn't the case. Today wouldn't have been allowed to be called a protest. But under the current health orders, should probably have been qualified as an illegal mass gathering. Kind of wish the media had run with that instead.

I was reading a story in the Herald about a real estate agent who was barred from his office for not being vaccinated.

It went on to say that:

On July 1, he left for London and Greece to sail the Greek islands, returning to New Zealand last month for a fortnight's MIQ at Auckland's Waipuna Hotel.

And yet we have people unable to get spaces to return to dying relatives.....

Didn't we all concur some time ago there will be so-and-sos thinking of themselves, still doing holiday jaunts (outside of the bubble fiasco) when travel was a little more free rather than listen to the do-not-travel advice.

Exhibit A.

@Geektastic & @Oblivian - If this was before the current Delta mess that we have in Auckland, I would agree - priority of MIQ capacity should be given to returning kiwis and higher priority given for compassionate reasons. Personally, I wouldn't even 'reserve' capacity for commercial or government junkets either, until we can allow our people a chance to come home.

However, we are now in the era of 'Level 3, Step one' which involves Covid positive people sheltering in their homes (with non-positive people too)... the riddle is: for folks returning to Auckland, should they be required to play the current MIQ lottery, or should we just get them to shelter at home (with the existing test requirements)? I can understand enforcing MIQ for non-Covid areas, eg. Wellington, Christchurch (too late now) etc.

It was very refreshing watching the rugby in Wales today. Despite the 'highest rate of covid in the UK' (2.5k per day), more than 71% of the population are vaccinated and 74,500 people packed into the stadium to support their team and sing their hearts out. Shots of people in the street going about their business.

I was then lucky enough to catch Man Utd beat Spurs in London in a full house.

Life goes on.

Makes me sadder for Aucklanders. 11 weeks of purgatory and conting, what a disaster.

Bear in mind that much of the UK was in lockdown for a year and further lockdowns may soon be necessary as they go into winter. It’s very easy to ignore the good times NZ has had and only look at the good things in other countries.

MileHighKiwi: 11 weeks of purgatory and counting, what a disaster.

Purgatory? Seriously?

The UK also has 40-50,000 cases per day and between 100-200 deaths. To put it in perspective, during last week, 1 in 50 people in the UK had covid.

The Government have given up and are just sweeping it under the carpet.

Essentially we are living week by week, until very recently where we were basically told it would be at least another month - meanwhile, other bits of the country are able to do things like 'open their businesses' or such extravagances as 'being inside with their relatives'.

Whatever is going on with other countries doesn't make it any easier to deal with what is happening here, or mean we shouldn't expect better when we get wobbles in our response.

My youngest lives in London, they endured what amounted to well over a year of close to our level 4 lockdown over which time we were close to open.

Auckland has had 11 weeks which is hard but really in comparison it has not been that long.

Here is a crazy notion, lets give peace a chance.
