I'd be more worried about the other medical professionals being roped in to help - the proctoligist "working his way from the tailpipe up to change the spark plugs" ad springs to mind!

If slowly getting less planes arriving the country, good timing for Auckland Airport think about it fix up the runaway and make it the best runaway in the world since there been delays for planes landing during the summer. :)

I hope mainstream TV will be running documentaries on why this has all happened so people can be educated.

TBH, I don't get it how can you change people's customs if they have been doing/eating various animals for centuries. It's not like I would eat monkey, but I'm not fun of seafood either (should we stop consuming cows because it is holy animal in India?).

Sometimes it just makes me angry that some people think others customs are better/worse than others.

If it's started because of sick/infectious animal - it would happen again and again.

It's not established for certain that the virus originated as a human disease (jumped species) in the Wuhan market.
I didn't see that video - I'm not interested, it's not verifiable or from a reliable source, just someone posting something on youtube.
I've never seen anything verifying that bats were being sold in the Wuhan wet market.
I've seen one claiming to show that, but it turned out that it wasn't shot in Wuhan, wasn't even shot in China, and was shot years ago.
Even if they were, it's very unlikely to have transmitted to humans directly from bats anyway. The RNA is different from coronaviruses found in bats, there's probably an intermediate host, it hasn't been confirmed what it was, it's been speculated it might have been pangolins or snakes, nobody actually knows - it could have been from budgies or cats. They do need to find out if possible.
MERS came out of the blue as a novel coronavirus, probably originally from bats, probably transmitted to humans via camels, probably nothing at all to do with "wet markets" or whatever.
There's no doubt that wet markets and the eating of bush meat, wild animals etc poses risks. So does keeping pets, you could get toxoplasmosis from cute kittens, aspergillosis from your budgie etc. Potentially terrible diseases come out of stupid practices in the developed world, BSE probably from feeding scrapie infected meat meal to cows. Now there's a serious potential ticking time-bomb with related CWD in North America, potentially worse than BSE, infected wild cervids shed prions through body fluid and infect each other. If that could infect humans - and it's not known that it can't - then we've got a huge problem.

There is no point China/Chinese bashing over Covid-19. We could just as easily be fighting a more easily transmissible MERS, much the same but far more lethal - and where it emerged has nothing to do with China.

It's too bad they disinfected the Wuhan wet market before they re-tested, as the tests they did carry out did not suggest that there was virus in the areas of the market where live animals were sold. It's pretty likely that someone already with Covid-19 came to the market and spread it from there. That's a problem, because until the intermediate host species is found, then there's the possibility that after being (hopefully) wiped out, covid-19 could re-emerge. Disinfecting the market was not an entirely stupid idea, and not done to "hide evidence". The other CTs that the virus escaped from a lab doing bioweapon research have been debunked.

There's been plenty of warning that something like Covid-10 would inevitably come, could have been a flu strain, could have been something else. How prepared was the world to fight it? Not very - so stupid us.

Stop blaming China folks. There's no point - it's too late, it serves no purpose, and it will make things worse. There's only one race of people - the human race.

You are suggesting that there is no correlation between human and animal density and disease? Thats plain wrong. Yes its not about blaming China, its about learning from past mistakes. Mistakes like unregulated wet markets that create breeding grounds [and they do]. The reality is this happened with SARS and China closed wet markets, only to open them again months later when that disease was successfully stopped. Its ground hog day, except this time around its significantly more contagious

i'm not surprised, you could teach a monkey how to push buttons on a ventilator, press on button, dial up the number, press start.

but i wonder why it takes an already qualified doctor 6 years to successfully treat a patient in a life threatening condition who has multiple organs affected all at once (lung only being one of them) https://www.cicm.org.au/Trainees/Program/General

The 30% track that early-stage European cases grew by in the first stages of their outbreaks when the exponential bit started happening, and the regular 1pm/230pm updates we seem to be getting from the Ministry of Health.

I am on that list, so rang the medical centre. They knew nothing and said "You could try ringing back on Monday?"

Ok, so if you look at an EU that has about12 cases and see how that goes? You would probbaly need our 12 to have been CT cases? otherwise with NZ you are tracking imports not spread

I rang yesterday and was told not to expect it before 1 April and they were still deciding on how they would implement the injections due to not wanting to inflate their waiting room any more.
