Ultimately we can agree the current laws surrounding marijuana are very outdated and are badly needing updating regardless of the pharmaceutical efficacy of the product.
I hope it passes.. I believe it will..
We'll all have to do a big smoke off in town and make it the land of the long white cloud of pot..

Fine, so if you are in chronic pain at some point in the future, don't use it. But please leave others to choose whatever works for them.

I find it quite interesting how a lot of people have this authoritarian view over what other people can do in their own recreational time and also over what people should be able to do or not do. Strange how all those who will say people are in "la la la land" when they reference a medical or useful use for Marijuana have mostly never been around it, tried it or seen a positive effect. 100 years ago you didn't need to have spent $100,000+ at a university for some letters in front of your name to be able to study things and report on the effects. You'd have to be pretty naive to dismiss anyone's beneficial claims here, these people have seen the benefit with their own eyes, probably more than once and probably more than one way.
If people have time to worry about that stuff, then take up a hobby, you are wasting a good human life.

Using Cannabis based products cannot be worse than the very strong pain relief including Morphine that I recieve now especially using it with the guidence of a Specialist and not a Gang member. It may not be the "holy grail" but if it works for me then I am not in la la land. Walk a mile in someones shoes before judging.

I have severely degenerated discs. Not only do they have give you pain killers but also can give benzos as anto muscle spasms.
They say its a gate way drug, rubbish. Sure some people will be lazy and just smoke it all day, but those people already exist. Giving people Opioids is beyond a gateway drug you are giving them drugs.
Sorry to hear that ... i once had a sore back and it was the worst. Only lasted a few hours though.
I can't agree that cannabis is not a gateway drug. Someone might buy some cannabis, the dealer might offer you some free P on top. You are at a party where people are the type who enjoy cannabis, some of whom do harder drugs and offer you a hit.
Good luck for your search, worth trying cannabis as some people say it works for them ...but it's amazing that in this day and age we don't have effective pain relief without side effects or long term complications.
Anyone who's been near anyone that's required pain management will tell you no single protocol works for everyone, This is just another tool in the toolbox for them to use.
Where it's been legalised haven't turned into pot ravaged hellscapes, Legalise it, Tax it and invest in treatment programs for addicts of all kinds

I had a childhood friend who got into cannabis in his teens, developed schizophrenia, and killed himself before 20.
Despite that, I think cannabis is less harmful than alcohol.
Would you want meth and LSD legalised too? How about cocaine , heroin and morphine etc. . .
But maybe you are right. The same applies to health and safety rules too. There are way too many.
I wonder what would happen if all drugs were simply legalised, but drug education was boosted.

It's interesting that there is this resistance to Cannabis related pain relief as it is narcotic based but there is no apparent resistence to the opiate based and synthetic opiate based pain relief which is also derived from a Narcotic base.

As someone who has been around parties with drugs and so fourth, I can tell you your statement about it being a gateway is so far from the truth it is not funny. Most weed smokers are very anti P and also do not associate with it or the people around it. Just because someone smokes weed, it does not make them lord of the drugs, generally speaking it will make them more drug aware and being more aware people stay much further away from it.
People do not just "Try P", everyone is very well aware of what it is and what it does, myself and a lot of people I know put it like this, If you are dumb enough to smoke crack or P, then you deserve to and good riddance to ya.
Spoons make you fat people...
lol, A bunch of stoners who smoke a drug which chills them out and slows them down are not going to take P, A drug that amps you up and makes you run at 200%

A lot of things happen in this world that we attribute to other things, could have been the case even if he did not smoke. I agree it is less harmful than alcohol. Meth and LSD are different, they are a synthetic substance that have very powerful mind altering chemicals in them.
Cocaine and MDMA is a lot different and I do not have issue with it, people work differently on coke/md than meth/heroin.
It would be interesting if all drugs were regulated and decriminalized apart from meth, heroin and a few others.
At the end of the day people will still obtain the drugs they desire, cut, uncut, fake or real and the quality control is mostly the problem. A lot of people in the nightclub scene take MDMA or what they think is MDMA. They generally get Ketamine, strychnine, methamphetamine, speed, crack, date rape and other Chinese produced test drugs pressed into a pill or rock form.
These people are ending up in hospitals, waking up under bridges raped and what ever else. If there was a regulation it would cull the black market, people could get the drug they are after and use it in a safe and educated way. People are still going to do drugs legal or not.
If we had good education around it and had a selection of drugs available for limited/controlled recreational use do you think people will all quit there jobs and all become drug addicts or be responsible and continue with their current use if they are users?
People will always get what they want, why not make it so it can be beneficial to the system and safer for humans to consume.

"a 2012 Yale research study that demonstrated that in both men and women 18 to 25, the use of marijuana was linked with an increased chance of future prescription drug abuse."
Sounds like a gateway drug to me.
Yep no argument there, however, the idea that dealers are doing P tastings with oz's is not correct. If it were legal and sold in shops you're less likely to get any potential gateway issues
