that works as well as vaccinations so win win

Reefton, eh? I have family from there. Not a lot happens there. Kinda typical attitude of a lot of people on the Coast at the moment, sadly; basically when it comes to coronavirus, "it's an Auckland problem" or (re the gym) "we don't agree with what the government is doing about coronavirus, so we'll just say they're the bad guy and shut up shop forever because this is too hard". I'm actually quite surprised their Facebook page has over 1500 likes - there aren't even that many people in Reefton, or the surrounding areas. The gym owner seems to have about 50 other things she's involved with anyway, so she should have no problems finding something else to fill in her time.

Depressingly - in a similar vein - I note that a relative of mine posted on Facebook the other day that he "knew of" 4 people in Greymouth that had died of the vaccine, apparently. No facts or anything to back it up, apart from hearsay. As an aside, he really hates Jacinda and everything she has/hasn't done for the Coast.

Fair enough, no politician is going to appeal to everyone. But spreading dangerous misinformation about the vaccine is what really frustrates me. A pity, as I thought he was far better than that.

Yes he also states his position of authority is that he was a USA registered Pharmacist.

Maybe graduated in the same class as this guy.

Top of northland L3. but ... there's nothing there ... what difference will it make?

Guessing just slows down the spread to let vaccination catch up.  Depends on how many people will follow the rules. L2 is not much different to normal, while L3 people can't go to other peoples homes, and they shouldn't have lockdown fatigue.

I think he's just pointing out the sheer hopelessness of stuff like this.

The Medsafe page even literally says:

"By chance, some people will experience new illnesses or die from a pre-existing condition shortly after vaccination, especially if they are elderly."

But some people think if you're 99 years old and get the vaccine and then die a week later, it's almost certainly the vaccine that killed you, without a doubt. Critical thinking is hard, so it's easier to be angrier.

Newshub:

But while some business groups are calling for a quicker easing of restrictions, health experts are nervous about whether Auckland is ready for a loosening of the rules.

The ongoing tug of war goes on

It's about time media start naming their "health experts" rather than just relying on the term to describe people? Not every health expert agrees with that statement.

Is it just Shaun Hendry and Rod Jackson who will only be happy if NZ stays locked down forever and never opens its borders?

The media does name them, every article I see that has an expert is named, along with their title. The general public, and I imagine the vast majority is far less involved in day to day Covid matters as we are here, probably reads or sees this swathe of commentary, which is one extreme to the other. It must worry some of them that named, qualified experts are worried as hell if we open up anything, then the others are annoyed that named and qualified experts say open up now. Talk about confusion. NZ's policy is very clear, vaccinate to 90% of eligibles then ease restrictions, but this basically is contrary to these two ranges of experts

Yes indeed. I could probably show him that page but he would say "oh I don't trust the Government". Not like Judith would have done things any differently re the vaccine, so I don't know who he trusts.

Sbiddle refers to they, as the government in that context.

Media are happy to back their claims/headlines with a name. The government refuse to name who is on the select committee of advisors they are listening to. Even when asked by reporters (who will then focus on or trust one source more than another)

Hence him mentioning Dr Hendy. As he had appeared twice on standup but not named on that team. So the presumption has been made.

True. End of the day no matter what experts they have as advisors, whether it be health or economy biased, many wont be happy anyway. Rock and a hard place, cannot win. It would certainly help if compliance was normal, then these conversations would not happen. Article today showing how many AKLDers dont or are lax at compliance, just a rough survey though, but its probably not far off the mark. You cant win with that no matter what health or economy bias may exist, already failed before the starting gun was fired

A really good question and I'm going to risk going political by suggesting looking at the Green Party caucus (past and present) for good examples of people who come to NZ to tell us we're doing it all wrong
