Batman:

nathan: It's been proven that veterinarians are the fastest medical professionals that can get up to speed successfully using ventilators etc

i'm not surprised, you could teach a monkey how to push buttons on a ventilator, press on button, dial up the number, press start.

but i wonder why it takes an already qualified doctor 6 years to successfully treat a patient in a life threatening condition who has multiple organs affected all at once (lung only being one of them) https://www.cicm.org.au/Trainees/Program/General

If you genuinely think running a ventilator is just a case of pushing buttons and start, then with respect, you are a fool.

I agree this lunacy has been going on in Dunedin for generations but I expected more intelligence at this time from varsity students.

Here is a crazy notion, lets give peace a chance.

If you search for 'Some USA schools closed until April 7' you will a long list of school districts closed until April 7 and later dates in April.   So they are extending a one week spring break into a three week or much longer closure.

Meanwhile in NZ schools are talking about closing for 2 days if a pupil is tested positive for Corona.   And principals are moaning about parents keeping children home from school.  The Health Minister says it is a war situation.  But is it being treated more like the 'phony war' at the start of World War 2 from September 1939 to April 1940?

Ah teenagers and young adult hormones and what they do to the mind - serotonin natures own little happy pill - give me more, give me more, I'm invincible, on top of the world.

Here is a worrying article:

How a chilling scientific paper helped upend US and UK strategies
18 Mar, 2020 9:53am

Here are the scary bits but read the article it is very sobering.

Imperial College group presented jaw-dropping numbers from some of Britain's top modellers of infectious disease, who predicted the deadly course of coronavirus could quickly kill hundreds of thousands in both the United Kingdom and the United States, as surges of sick and dying patients overwhelmed hospitals and critical care units.

The Imperial College group reported that if nothing was done by governments and individuals and the pandemic remained uncontrolled, then 510,000 would die in Britain and 2.2 million in the US over the course of the outbreak.

These kinds of numbers are deeply concerning for countries with top-drawer healthcare systems. They are terrifying for less-developed countries, global health experts say.

If Britain and the US pursued more ambitious measures to mitigate the spread of coronavirus, to slow but not necessarily stop epidemic over the coming few months, they could reduce mortality by half, to 260,000 people in the United Kingdom and 1.1 million in the US.

Finally, if the British Government quickly went all-out to suppress viral spread - aiming to reverse epidemic growth and reduce the case load to a low level - then the number of dead in the country could drop to below 20,000.

To do this, the researchers said, Britain would have to enforce social distancing for the entire population, isolate all cases, demand quarantines of entire households where anyone is sick, and close all schools and universities - and do this not for weeks but for 12 to 18 months, until a vaccine is available.

Whilst the difficult we can do immediately, the impossible takes a bit longer. However, miracles you will have to wait for.

All international travel-related. Be interesting to see if any are from the pre-Sunday surge.

Might be. They must not have called Healthline or doctor or ED.              Or contact tracking is nabbing them, buying some time.
