The 'time distorts in Wellington at 1pm' thing is happening again.

Funny how when there's a Press Conference, the briefing starts pretty much on time, certainly by 13:10 or 13:15 at the very latest.

However, when the PM or Deputy PM or Minister for Covid Response aren't standing at their office door, drumming their fingers, tapping their feet and looking at their wristwatches in a meaningful manner, well, there's no rush 13:20, 13:25 even 13:30 will be fine, no need to bust your boiler or get your knickers in a twist.

ok Those 2Rotorua cases are really strange as they are now no longer in Rotorua but have gone back to Auckland to be with family, we may have escaped a large outbreak as there seems to be no close contacts or household contacts.

Except for the 12 cops

4:07 pm on 14 November 2021
Twelve police are self-isolating and waiting for test results after coming into contact with the two people who tested positive for Covid-19 in Rotorua.

im not sure if it was the 2 cases because the 4th person that was wanted for the shooting in Grey Lynn was arrested in Rotorua over the weekend and the victim had covid and the 3 other people are in isolation for covid

Common sense is not as common as you think.

Weds for the actual border announcement.

Even though it was in today's cabinet meeting. Good grief.

Agreed, the Government is really not thinking about the look of what is happening as seen by Aucklanders.

Especially the new framework, which was held out to Aucklandlers as the reward to us for getting high vaccination rates. But now "let's do it for the whole country", even though going to the new framework for all makes sense. It's just a feeling of "being shitted on again" when a promised and much promoted "reward" is awarded to all.

Any sort of boundary around Auckland, excepting movement restriction based on being non-vaccinated, will go down like a lead balloon with Auckland. Especially if this is due to the fact that it is "too hard" to create a boundary in low vaccinated areas

Probably need to talk with council, police, army etc. I recall in high school I would hand in my assignment weeks ahead of time, whereas half the class would swot it out the night before and get 2-3 extensions before handing them in a month late. Rinse repeat. What do you think these people are doing now? Yup

We're almost done -

12-19 First doses 425,218   84.6%  Second  336,588    67%

To reach 90% there are 25K more first doses and 166K second remaining,  (from a total pop of around 500K ppl)

Auckland is in suppression, the rest of the country is largely in a form of elimination / stamp out flareups (until vaccination is high enough), so much effort in contact tracing now seems to be out of Auckland.. So a border is needed even though it seems pretty leaky with unvaxed people able to cross it with an exemption. But I hope they have ring fenced Waikato cases. If the Auckland border opened, imo it would essentially spread like wildfire and vaccination rates are not high enough outside Auckland. Instead they are giving Aucklanders as much freedom and normality as safely possible within the border, and balancing this with the health system. I recall the DDG last week saying there were about 1000 hospital beds and 100 ICU capacity in Auckland for covid patients which doesn't seem a lot, when we are about 10% there already.. It seems when people need ICU care, they need to be in there for quite some time. My brother lives in the  Northland area and his wife works in the hospital, and he said that he doesn't think it is going to go well up there, and he used a four letter word to describe the hospital.

The PM was saying that the new framework is going to provide greater protection for NZers with covid cases occurring, so I wonder why they don't bring in some of those protections now with the existing levels, such as only allowing vaccinated people in most stores etc, because everyone now has had the chance to get fully vaccinated. They need to. She was also talking about the 90% being a vaccination  target. But the DG refers to 90% as a milestone. IMO they need to get some consistent messaging. 90% isn't a target, it is a milestone, and 95% is seen as a better milestone by experts.

As an Aucklander, I actually just don't give a rats arse about the rest of the country anymore.

They don't know what it's like. They're not being lauded for "doing it for the country" while being called Plague Rats and knowing they'll be unwelcome anywhere else but Queenstown.

I'm just over this whole "us and them" business. The rest of the country had its chance. Open the borders and let them reap what they sow.

So you don't care about all the additional deaths that will occur, it would be carnage? Auckland is in the middle of a Covid outbreak, but has a  better health capacity to cope with the outbreak than some other parts of NZ. I heard that Auckland has the only dedicated pediatric ICU in NZ too.
