Given that proof of vaccination will be a legal requirement to be in some venues with penalties for both patrons and business owners for non-compliance, I would expect that prudent businesses will cover the risk by requiring a successful QR scan and compare against the plaintext. I await the clarification with bated breath.

Germans will be "vaccinated, cured or dead" by winter end, says health minister-

Australia will allow fully-vaccinated international students and skilled workers into parts of the country without needing to apply for a federal travel exemption, Prime Minister Scott Morrison announced Monday.

Under the new rules, vaccinated tourists from Japan and South Korea will also be allowed to visit Australia from December 1.

Both groups will still need to comply with the quarantine measures set out by different states and territories.-

So we haven't had a single fully vaccinated arrival into NZ since August test positive for Covid (there have been 3 positive cases, all in the unvaccinated). Really shows how broken the concept of continuing MIQ for all arrivals is going to be from mid December.

As Manuel on Fawlty Towers would say - Keh?

There are (as at 0900 this morning), 26 active cases at the border. Where are you getting 3 from, let alone 3 since August?

as i have said, auckland was kept fenced up to stop leak into rest of the country. now the rest of the country have been given ample time to get vaccinated, auckland will open. soon the covid will be all over the country.

MIQ was set up to stop leak all over the country. so when covid is all over the country MIQ will no longer have a purpose.

hopefully someone in charge understands this simple concept.

again, this does mean bad news for hospitals unfortunately.

Sorry didn't quite finish my sentence before clicking post! Meant 3 from Australia since August, not all arrivals.

The fact TT travel is not going to resume this year is just unbelievably sad for everybody who has friends and family spread across both countries. It's really clear now it's politics put ahead of true risk assessments.

Speaking colloquially as the article does, this is a theory. It will remain a theory until more evidence is available and examined.

At every traffic light colour, the Government has mandated vaccinations for staff working at businesses that require vaccine passes from customers – hospitality, events, gatherings, gyms and close-contact businesses.

To continue working in these spaces, staff will need to get their first vaccination by December 3, when the new framework rolls out. They must be fully vaccinated by January 17 to keep working.

So would this mean that staff that work in Cafes, Hair Salons etc have to have their first jab by the 3rd December yet the customers have to have both jabs to enter?

My understanding was both staff and customers have to be fully vaccinated by the time the traffic light system starts.

That's what I thought too. Ive read that first jab gives you about 20% effectiveness, and that wont happen immediately if you get jabbed on 3 Dec. Even the 2nd jab 3 weeks away takes another 2 to get to full noise. OTOH it gets jabs done quicker, and there are plenty of unjabbed people out there on 3 Dec (anti vaxxers, exempts and kids under 12) so its "probably" not a major issue. 3 Dec is a nudge I suspect

What “international” one? There is no such thing.

There would have been if Facebook or Google set it up, lets face it, they have the data anyway and clearly the technical expertise to produce something on a global scale.......

Who do you call to talk about the auckland border and crossing it?

I can't find a number anywhere, my son is getting a covid test every day but not getting the results back within 72 hours.

is he going to the same place each time?

i can understand not getting 1 resul back but multiple there is a failing in the system somewhere.

Its a pity that many other places are using their freedums to keep selection process for fitter virus going.

Interesting comment below is that Delta is more like 'original' than Beta, thus existing vaccines being reasonably effective against it.
So oxford consider that work on Beta for new version of vaccine still worthwhile just in case.
Plus a review of why MERS vaccine did not go far, and they could not even get support to vaccinate camels.

It would be nice, here's hoping, though behaviors of host is still a wildcard factor.

I like what you say at the end about human behavior. We saw this with the sentinel case when NZ almost eradicated Delta....a Woman self discharges from Middlemore, is later found not at home, she is at the Mongrel mob pad in Takanini...the rest they say is history....from there the virus traveled the well worn organized drug routes to what we live with now.

You can imagine a bunch of experts sitting around furiously making a bespoke eradication plan in the future....they will need a footnote about un reachable individuals and groups (they do this already, I am just waxing lyrical here).

The Japanese situation is compelling, natural selection vs an expert throwing a hypothesis dart at the board and hoping he scores a scientific announcement first.

There are now two ecosystems throwing up odd results, the continent of Africa and Japan. Watch this space I suppose. As always, stay tuned.

So onto the next phase we go, relative openness to entry with the lions share of safety monitoring placed on immunity levels, public trust, and testing.

What could go wrong?

I Jest, it is a good day and well done to all that have got us to this point where living and thriving in a pandemic context is happening. Soon people will struggle to find real issues to complain about. I emphasize the real.
