gzt: There are all kinds of problems with Omicron. It's still killing a lot of people. That and it's not instant to find out if a high risk patient presenting with symptoms is suffering from Covid Delta or Covid Omicron.

we have at least 4 people drown in the last couple of days.

swimming and scuba is dangerous. i hope they ban it.

You can say lots of things about Omicron but to say "it's still killing a lot of people" is simply not a claim that can be backed with solid data.

Agree. That will take some time.

the studies all seem to say the same thing it doesnt affect the lungs like Delta does , it is mainly a bronchial disease  so people are not getting pneumonia and they dont need oxygen as much and if they go to hospital the average stay is only 3-4 days compared to 8 days for delta and again if you are in Hospital there is pretty good chance you are not vaccinated.

Common sense is not as common as you think.

Watching NSW and extrapolating that for us, it certainly seems as though omicron will be a bigger problem than Delta.

An overwhelming of health care is certain.

Unless of course we hold it out long enough to triple Jab and cover kids. But even if we do that, it will buckle the health system here. Well perhaps not if the antivaxxers keep slowly getting vaccinated before it arrives.

But at the rate it is putting people in hospital in NSW it looks well beyond our capability.

Which will mean deaths. I do not care if omicron is milder, if hospitals are full, more people die, that is how health care operates on a normal day....omicron will be the biggest storm in hospital that any staff member in our hospitals has ever seen.

A quarter of all tests done coming back positive should be fairly alarming for Australia, especially as they are turning away many from getting tests.

Australia saying the majority of cases in ICU across the country have Delta. Shows how much more dangerous it is.

I agree, not a lot are dying.....

Maybe we can make our highways 140kph as not a lot will die?  Maybe divert lifesavers at the beach to laying house foundations as not a lot will die?

While on the one hand I can't see a way out of Omicron, some of us are at risk, so is that "not a lot will die"??? Seems to be $/travel vs life  Im sure many of us have grandparents/those at risk  but not a lot will die???

There is no “solution”. That has been apparent for some time. There’s only bad or worse.

I saw the Delta vs omicron NSW I.C.U. break down. It seems to be very positive news. Brad Hazzard the Minister for health did claim this the other day, but it is good to have some confirmation of what is going on.

Seemingly the Delta variant got away on them a bit after removing all the restrictions underneath the omicron wave, it does seem omicron is by far the preferable option for adults.

In other news I see there is a new variant in France, local reports are that is is quite nasty, with forty mutations, making a dozen people very ill, however the good news is that it has been around since November and it seems to be getting nowhere due to omicrons much greater spread.

Dubbed "IHU" or B. 1.640.2, the variant is said to have come from Cameroon.

More evidence of the need to vaccinate Africa.

And in other news, an Israeli woman is a documented case of Flurona, or Flu an Covid at the same time, she is pregnant and is doing well with only very mild illness.

Whats the solution or outcome for the vulnerable then? So, there is no solution, so what is the outcome?

Surely some version of the inevitable outcome to those who are vulnerable to illness or disease?
