Dulouz:

Many of the restrictions seem like unnecessary theatre used to symbolise control over the virus where there is none.

Bit hard to change the mindset from "I'm in Auckland, need to scan/use a mask/hand sanitiser" etc...then travel to, say, Timaru: "I'm all good now, no coronavirus here, so I don't need to do any of those things" - it's good to keep up the habits (IMO) otherwise you get back to Auckland and you forget to scan etc.

I have a query relating to my booster today and can't seem to find the info online - how long does it take to update in My Vaccine Pass to say I'm boosted, or do I need to do something with it?

Whoever did you booster will update their system which will update the official record. Mine took about 20 minutes, my wife about 2 days. Expect delays.

Mine took about an hour, wife about the same. Boosted at a pharmacy on the North Shore.

Oh, and it won't show on your pass, only in the My Vaccine Record website.

Is there now any point in scanning QR codes and/or doing Contact Tracing?

I listened to a lecture given by Dr Andrew Chen this morning that was titled "The NZ Covid Tracer: Did it work?"

The question posed in the quote above was asked at the end and he gave 3 reasons why we should keep scanning as far as I can recall.

Firstly the information captured allows the MoH to evaluate risk of getting Covid in certain venues/situations - he observed that to date it was clear that supermarkets were not a big problem but that airplanes, gatherings such as funerals were. With the changing and evolving of the pandemic this may change and the scanning by everybody helps the gathering of data that informs this risk evaluation.

Secondly he said it is easier to keep a habit going than to stop and then restart the habit - and that once we are past omicron we will be back to "stamping it out" again and scanning is helpful with this

And finally that from an individuals viewpoint if you do get covid and want to let your close contacts know, the tracer record from using the scanning app will be very helpful to you in recalling what you were doing over the last week or so.

In terms of the answer to his talk question " Did it work?" he said "probably" but he was still evaluating this and the answer will not be clear until the pandemic has run its course. He defined the issue that the app was trying to solve was two fold - firstly "completeness" of case tracing information and secondly "speed". He thought that the completeness of tracing data was probably not improved that much over manual tracing approaches but the speed aspect probably was. With speed being key for contact tracing to be effective he saw this as the area in which the app has been most effective.

Look for forward to reading his formal evaluation in due course.

Does this mean vaccine mandate will not apply to Police and NZDF anymore if so then this will be a huge chain reaction to all industries or the gov't let this out today in the hope no one will bat an eye as everyone is all eyes in the Russia vs Ukraine saga.

Wow, that was a surprise to me at least.

This may be the beginning of the end of mandates and restrictions. I feel once we are over the peak most rules will go promptly, even the need to wear masks.

What peak? What if there's a "Pi" after this one? Everyone seems to be thinking this is the last we've seen of it. I'd rather think "we should be prepared to see worst".

Well fair call, I guess the question is then, at what point do restrictions lift fully? Do we wait for a year, two years or three years to see if there is dangerous variant? This is a genuine question I would love an expert to answer.

I'm sure the Crown will appeal, as I'm equally sure the Plaintiff would have appealed if the High Court found for the Crown.

I fully expect this will end up in the Supreme Court, even if the mandates have been dropped and it has no practical effect.
The government will want the legal position made certain, which effectively need a SCoNZ ruling.

Im not an expert, but its not about you or me, its about hospital beds and ICU. If they remain covered, and cases start to drop, then thats when the mandate conversation can start. The "ok" people can manage Covid themselves, the vulnerable cannot be left without hospital beds.

You both almost got it right. It's My Covid Record https://mycovidrecord.health.nz/

Edited to add: That also covers tests as well as vaccinations and is the route to upload RAT  results now.

What the ruling didn't address, in the case of the NZDF, is that there were actually two mandates. The first one came from CDF and that was to make Covid 19 vax part of the mandated set of vaccinations required by service people to allow them to deploy outside their home environment. The second mandate came later from the government over the top of CDF's and I think that is what the ruling applied to.

Could get interesting.

Thanks, didn't know about the self-reporting so just entered (negative) result for my daughter.

Just finished chatting to a friend in Austria: Just the city of Vienna alone is doing 800,000 tests a day, so they're testing roughly one third of their entire population every day. You give a saliva sample in the morning and get the results by the evening, he gets around three tests a week.
