if you want to see what vaccinations and strict isolation conditions do to the death rate , look at NZ, 500,000 cases and just over 200 deaths. All countries with 500,000 cases are around 20,000 deaths. our deaths are equal to countries with cases in the low thousands.
Common sense is not as common as you think.

And I got it now. Feels like a head cold at the moment, combined with a slight brain fuzz reminiscent of a hangover.

We just need to compare our death rate with Hong Kong where their vaccination rate is low. My concern with NZ is how we are almost acting like the pandemic is over even though we haven't reached teh peak of this wave in much of NZ. There are going to be other variants, and it is likely there will be another wave over winter. But we need to keep vaccinations up and there are lot of people who haven't had boosters, and until they do, they are likely to not be considered fully vaccinated in the future by the MOH. This wave almost seems like a very long plateau than a wave as daily reported cases have been the same for weeks and hospital cases have been rising steadily rather than exploding, and we are at last at double digit daily deaths which are likely to be the norm for a while.

Not surprising scanning and passes are going. I think keeping passes in high risk settings probably would have been a good idea.
I am quite surprised at how much the vaccine mandates have eased, particularly for teaching.
I do wonder how vaccination for Covid 19 (specifically as opposed to other vaccinations) interfaces with health and safety law, after the Covid-19 legislation no longer applies, as that sort of is the only avenue left for employers who mandate it.
The thing is why delay the phasing out of scanning by a few days. Is anyone going to do it now as a result of this.? They may have well just phased it out immediately, especially as many people are not doing it now anyway. Many people are only going to the supermarket or essential things at the moment, so know where they have been.
Called briefly into one local cafe at earlier this afternoon. Previously always asked to see Vaccine Pass but not this time. So yes (based on a sample of one!), seems to be taking immediate effect. Also briefly in another, but they never asked to see the passes.

I agree but didn't they make some of the changes to take effect immediately. Maybe those immediate changes didn't it.

So phasing out is often exactly that. Until it changes. It's still law.
It's a seatbelt. Nothing changes for me. Habit. And requirements of employment to keep track.
Pretty sure there was never a law that said you had to scan in, there was a law that said shops had to display them but scanning in was always an "ask"

I have to admit, I have stopped scanning and it appears most of NZ has too. There's not a lot of point when locations of interest aren't a thing. As you mention I'm really only going to an extremely limited range of places (ie about four, and one of those is a regular appointment anyway).
