The above page shows, for example, that new cases of COVID-19 are a huge 577 for the USA, followed by 98 for Australia, 87 for South Korea, 50 for Thailand, 46 for Mexico and 11 for NZ.

New Zealand has now 39 cases.

That's correct and the page referred to shows that. The figures above are for today's new cases.

It's interesting that the above page shows that for the cruise ship "Diamond Princess", there have been 712 cases of which 527 have recovered, 7 have died, 178 are still "active" cases, and that there are still 14 serious, critical cases.

There will be. Trust me on that. But they'll be waiting to try to pick the bottom. Bonus is they get almost free money from the banks to do it, and the banks love it because it props a dead market up and reduces their losses from mortgagee sales.

I guess that the same applies to the whole of the property market in that, if you're a buyer, it may pay to wait a while to see if prices reduce substantially. This may be possible if a lot of highly mortgaged owners lose their jobs and have to sell, thus causing an oversupply in the market. However, this might take quite a while to play out.

another plus with the virus is that the Rental market might ease as the Airbnb market has pretty much collapsed, so if people want any money they will have to put them back on the rental market.

The rental market might also ease if people on temporary visas (student, work, WHV, etc.) begin to lose jobs and decide to go home (where they might be entitled to unemployment benefits they wouldn't be here).

I probably should have rephrased that. There may not be too many buyers out there wanting to pay, what the sellers will be currently wanting based off current values. But it will be interesting to see what develops, but experts have been saying houses have been way way over priced for years, fueled by cheap credit and lack of supply.
The other thing this virus will do is instantly reduce incoming immigration, so NZs population won't grow as quickly this year.

Scientists say that cheap face masks don't provide protection against the corona virus.

Air tight masks that seal the face and goggles might provide protection. Assuming you also wash your face and hands after removing the mask/goggles.

It makes me laugh looking at all the sheep wearing cheap face masks in public places.

Why laugh? Even a cheap mask reduces initial viral load. For a disease this virulent that can make a big difference in the outcome.

The shutdown of travel is hitting people really hard now. The UAE is not letting any foreign nationals in anymore, even if you have a residency visa.

In the NZ UAE WhatsApp group there are multiple families where husband's/wives are separated from their families. One ladies husband is stuck in Moscow while another is here with her husband unable to return.

I have worked from home all this week. I got an email today saying that there was someone infected who had been in our building on Monday. If I had been in the office I would have had to self quarantine but I had made the executive decision to work from home.

That's terrible. I don't know how they can live with themselves.

It's just that this call was so blatantly a scam, so dumb, that it was funny..

It cheered me up on a day when my wife has quit her job (that she loved), and we're filling out forms to claim against her Unemployment Insurance.
After a stand-down period of 28 days she'll likely receive 55% of her insurable weekly earnings. A big hit, but one we can handle.

There must be a lot of people for whom - apart from the health risks - this is going to be a disaster, financially.
