Zepanda66:

14 new cases. Now at 53.

Guys, I hoped you're not as affected as we do in a dense city since NZ has apopulation density of 17.5 people/km². Here in Hamburg, we are 2480 people/km². The very underestimating thing is, that exponential function is starting with very low counts for a "long" time" at the beginning, but then ...

From the Asthma and Respiratory Foundation NZ:

Asthma and Respiratory Foundation NZ is now recommending that anyone with a serious or underlying respiratory condition begin self-isolation immediately to protect against COVID-19.

New Zealand is now at a Level 2 alert level for COVID-19 where the disease is contained, but risks of community transmission growing

COVID-19 is known to cause breathing difficulties and coughing, which can be extremely dangerous to those who already have a hard time breathing. The people most at risk of severe health impacts from Covid-19 are those with pre-existing chronic health conditions including asthma, bronchiectasis, COPD, or compromised immune systems.

People of all ages can be infected by COVID-19, but people who are older, immunocompromised, or with underlying medical conditions such as asthma, are more vulnerable to developing complications from the virus.

Advice for those with moderate to severe asthma, COPD, bronchiectasis, or other respiratory conditions:

- Follow the Ministry of Health guidelines

- Seek to minimise contact with others as much as possible, and avoid venturing outside unless absolutely necessary.

Advice for those with mild respiratory conditions:

- Follow the Ministry of Health guidelines

- Make sure your medication is up to date, well stocked and always carry a reliever

- Self-isolate if you feel it is in your best interests

Advice to everyone:

- Follow the Ministry of Health guidelines

- Regularly wash your hands with soap for at least 20 seconds and thoroughly dry

- Stay home if you're sick

- Practice physical/social distancing of 2 metres

- Self-isolate if you have returned from overseas for at-least 14 days

If you think you may have COVID-19

- Call Healthline's dedicated COVID-19 hotline on 0800 358 5453

- Call your doctor BEFORE turning up to ensure you are not putting people at risk

For more information on these guidelines, visit the Ministry of Health's dedicated COVID-19 website at covid19.govt.nz

Could Jacinda Ardern and Dr Ashley Bloomfield be given time off to spend with their families and others such as Dr David Clark take over for a short time keeping New Zealand informed without causing panic ?

We need to be able to keep people from burnout when they are managing crisis. I imagine of such a plan was notified well in advance would be OK ?

Techies should have isopropyl alcohol in their kits, but you're not supposed to use it straight. It is a good base for DIY sanitiser, though.

Mentioned it in passing to someone at Bunnings while getting some tap fittings, they sold out days ago.

I've gotta say, after seeing her on TV a few times in the last few days, it's great to have a national leader who's actually a Leader, not a delusional con artist. Makes you really glad to be in NZ.

Jacinda Arderns government hasn't been very successful but she is an amazing leader in a crisis.

Post the announcement on Newshub they went to a commentator to discuss it. She said when she was driving home last night, through Ponsonby, that bars and restaurants were packed. She says we arent taking it seriously, the public need to play ball.

What !!!
I thought it was only dastardly Otago university students that partied under the current viral event judging by the frothing at the much postings several days ago...

Odt post there usual anti student article and gets copied nation wide but a packed ponsonby doesn't make the nzherald...

Yep

I think NZ can manage this, low population and low density is huge. Some of my very near family has embraced this, Im super proud, but if in NZ its not the odd bad apple but its many that dont see the risk, that's sad.

It is not a crazy idea. She is a mother as well as our leader. No-one is super-human. If she had the occasional day off, that would surely only enhance her effectiveness.

The reporters should do a walk out. That sort of thing is not on.
