neb: For those who aren't familiar with this particular euphemism, it was previously known as printing more money. It's OK as long as it's kept in check...

thanks i was wondering what that was

Here's the best explanation I've seen of quantitative easing, at least as performed in the US. It's only a few minutes long.

Schools closed from tomorrow - except for kids of essentials workers for planning. Closing from Wednesday evening.

Bars, cafes, restaurants - including takeaways should close.

Theatres, cinemas and events (indoors and outdoors) to close.

This is a four-week lockdown.

We are so not managing the risk okay. And NZ doesn't have constitutional supremacy. Parliament can pass a law to close the borders now and, frankly, they should.

Thats your opinion not fact, re management. Unless the MoH are inept.

I admire your confidence in the MoH, which I don't share. My interactions with the MoH, as opposed to DHBs, haven't helped.

Nevertheless, I agree that management of incoming cases has been good... we do NOT have widespread CT. I suggest that Kiwis returning to NZ to escape the pandemic are very likely to comply, and that what CT we have is likely to be from tourists. The media has numerous examples of their disregard of the isolation requirements.

Yes, our own people and tourists have forced the Govt to babysit them, to the detriment of ourselves and the vulnerable

The one glaring weakness of the support package is the refusal to freeze all rent and mortgage payments full stop. We need the lenders to take a haircut for a month to maximise everyone's compliance.

i cannot share that view that it's mainly tourists sorry, everyone has been very casual about this, residents and non residents.

Cloud spending continues to surge globally, but most organisations haven’t made the changes necessary to maximise the value and cost-efficiency benefits of their cloud investments. Download the whitepaper From Overspend to Advantage now.

That sums up how I feel about this too. Really pleased the government is being this proactive. I dreaded they would be too slow and we'd be screwed and face tens of thousands of deaths.

Few areas could have been stronger and clearer...

Go check on your neighbours - More risk of infection, particularly if elderly...

No Roadblocks to stop people moving around the country...

Feels like they wanted to do Level 4 but didn't have the legal power to do so...

I really didn't expect a lock down for another few weeks at least credit to the government for being proactive and not reactive like so many other governments. Hopefully this has saved us from a lot of heartache.

Have to admit that I got a bit emotional watching the PM's press conference. Its a very sad time for NZ and the world.
