Dingbatt:
So Level 4 restrictions start at 2359 tomorrow.
Any bets how long it is before the first reports of people flouting the rules? Not people just trying to get home, but deliberately ignoring what they are supposed to do.
I have some faith in human nature, so I’ll say a week.
One hour.

Total and utter dropkick alert:
Retailers call for clarity on what counts as essential
"There is a much broader range of stores providing essential goods to New Zealanders.
"There is a range of speciality grocers, food stores and convenience stores that people may not class as supermarkets but which are nonetheless a key means of delivering food to New Zealanders. These stores should also be exempt from any closure requirements," Harford said.
"Finally, there is a range of other stores that provide supplies that are essential to the maintenance and operation of households, as well as the health and wellbeing of New Zealanders.
"These include hardware stores, garden stores, especially for fruit and vegetable plants, appliance stores, specialty trade stores and the like," he said.
The "Harford" that is quoted in this rather poorly written article is Greg Harford, the CEO of Retail NZ. In these times of life and death, apparently going to the garden centre is essential. Who cares if anyone's whole garden is ruined? It's not worth the health or life of one person. The only way there can be confusion over this is if a business is trying to open, when the presumptive approach should be to shut. We don't need great varieties of food -- society and parliament has already decided that staples from established supermarkets, essential utilities, medicine, and other basic things are all that we need. If you have to eat without some fancy sauce, get the hell over yourself.
/rant over.
neb: Could we re-open the gun thread, specifically for this guy? I think in this case it's justified.
Just don't buy stuff from his crap store with the annoying screaming commercials. Anything. Strangle his business. Put him out of it.
Plesse igmore amd axxept applogies in adbance fir anu typos
They're allowing flights to continue so people can get home until Friday
I dunno. Shelter in place with support from the govt I think seems safer.
What the hell do you do with a farmer over 80 who employs hands mostly well over 70 who wants them to shear sheep tomorrow? Is sheep farming 'essential'? Does that extend to the age of the workers? Even sheep raised for meat have to be shorn. This affects me personally. How do you make sense of these kinds of situations?

I was at Bunnings earlier today. Jesus H. Christ it was nuts in there. Everyone's buying things for this imminent very long weekend.
I just can't understand it. The whole point of this is to prevent people coming in contact with one another and spreading it. eg no mass gatherings of people. The virus doesn't understand dates and deadlines.
I assume that because a lot of people will be stuck at home they're capitalising on that and plan on some DIY projects that otherwise won't get done. I can't blame them for that.
The sensible thing might have been to close Bunnings and Mitre10 etc down a day earlier without warning to prevent this.
Being forewarned just increased the risk by forcing people together.

Yeah, I was going to go to The Warehouse today to get some arts and crafts type things for our 2 year old daughter to keep her entertained now that preschool is closed.. but then I thought there'll probably be hoards of people going there so opted to stay home instead
Will just have to make do with what we already have
Red shed tv campaign has even been made
Here for our essential needs. From Groceries to BoardGames apparently
Fourpeak:Surprised to see Chorus Still intend to carry out Fibre installs, Surely getting Upgraded to Fibre cant be a essential service. especially if you already have a intact copper or wireless service.

So, Govt is considering quarantining (enforced) returning citizens.
Maybe that they should also consider this for anyone arriving from a city in NZ where infection has been confirmed
