kobiak: Another stupid question. Since hunting and fishing is prohibited, is hiking allowed? Any official info? Would love to get away from everyone far far far in the mountains.
You have to be in proximity of your home/base. Getting away is not quite the same.

And again also people should remember that whatever recreational activity you do, just take it easy and keep it low risk. The hospital doesn't need you there.

Ge0rge: Trap? Last time I looked, Fish and Game weren't part of the Government, and NZ First are. Unless the tweet / post is actually fake, I would take that as government advice / sanction of solo hunting.
I wouldn't take a NZ First tweet as a health advice.

It's probably been posted before but it bears mentioning again.
Don't patronise Domino's. They are threatening to open during the lock down and increasing the chances of you, your loved ones and their staff plus their loved ones dying.
In a statement, a Domino's spokesman said the company had provided food to those who needed it on the frontline in many natural disasters and crisis.
"It's clear from the overwhelming response from the community this morning that customers appreciate this gesture and we are eager to play our part.
"Providing delivered food, safely, during this crisis can help with social distancing and reduce crowds at supermarkets. We recognise that is a significant responsibility and, provided the Government and our customers are willing for us to continue, we will do our part."
No - just bugger off and close. And preferably never open again.
From DOC:
All huts, campsites and lodges are closed due to COVID-19. They must not be used for self-isolation.
There's more info on the website.

The christchurch City Council has made bus rides free so people working in essential services can get around....
... but then cut the operating hours so nurses can no longer use them to get to morning shift or get home from afternoon shift.

Wuhan is coming out of lockdown after around 10 weeks. With presumably high compliance. So we need to take a realistic view this ain't gunna be over in four weeks.
They started the lockdown from a much worse position though - officially 17 deaths already (but likely more due to early suppression). With high compliance I can see it taking only 4-6 weeks here in NZ from our starting point. With poor compliance, it'll be impossible.
I live next to the Waikato River. I have a Jetski. I can (and do) launch it into the river from my property with 0% chance of me seeing anyone outside of my 'bubble'. I dont have to travel anywhere.
I would be lucky to pass by 1 person per hour on the river, and certainly not closer than 2m (probably 50m) on a normal weekend day.
In my mind, this is fine, and will be within the level 4 rules.

I would doubt it considering people have been asked to stay at home, except for essential things, or to go for a walk. Although I do wonder if a walk, includes cycling and jogging?

meh it's fine but defeats the purpose of a lockdown. in europe the army are even arresting solo surfers.
interestingly the Ministry of Health encourages people to stay active and even go out for walks to avoid getting crazy being stuck inside.

If you fall off and hurt yourself, the jetski blows up, you run out of gas or whatever, then don't count on getting rescued or having anyone come to help.
Coast Guard has appealed for recreational boating, fishing etc to cease.
I wouldn't do it.

Perhaps falls into same category as hunting. Discouraged from doing things that might require the services of emergency sevices.
