Dingbatt:

For the jet skier a couple of pages back consider the following,

Apart from contact with others in the event of needing rescue, if you are buzzing up and down the Waikato River in front of your neighbours who are fully following the rules and are feeling the onset of cabin fever, you can expect a visit from the Police. Jet Skis are very annoying to everyone except the rider.

The whole idea is no unnecessary movement or contact. Your trip to the petrol station would not be necessary if you hadn’t converted petrol into noise on the river.

THE FOLLOWING IS MY PERSONAL OPINION (not an expert or ‘in the know’)

There is a Level 5, it is called Marial Law.

It would mean no leaving your property without a permit. (Apply online or by phone for the right to visit supermarket, chemist, doctor, etc)

Dusk til dawn curfew.

Arrest of anyone not obeying the above.

If there isn’t enough compliance with what the government is requiring us to do, expect it to be forced on us ‘China Style’.

[Mod edit (MF): fixed spelling]

Pedantic mode on. Fixed with the wrong spelling. Martial. 😉

To those of us of Chinese ancestry, China Style means a highly effective and rational evidence based response to a pandemic with no known effective treatment.

Yep, that’s what I meant and have amended my post to reflect that.

On Checkpoint last night Jacinda said that people who live alone are allowed to have one close contact, but it's unclear whether there will be restrictions on driving distances.

sounds like yes, as I'm planning to do the same few times over the lockdown. But there's delima: person I'm seeing, she lives with 2 kids (15 and older) and her mother... and I don't want to pass on anything to them :( we have not come to the conclusion what would be best to do... I think isolation and exclude all the contact, she insists that we be fine :(

What part of isolation are you struggling to understand? It's a simple concept. Stay at home.

Officially theres only 4 levels. However I'm like 90% certain I saw a Unite against COVID-19 ad on tv the other day and it mentioned there being a level 5. It wouldn't shock me if there was a level 5. Only 4 levels seemed like an odd number.

yeah make sure you don't go to the supermarket when you run out of toilet paper. brain health is as important as arsehole health and it won't contribute to virus spread. you have full flights landing in AKL to do that for you. if they don;t do something about those AKL flights the shutdown could go on for months, by then suicide rates will be higher than covid deaths in NZ.

It's an even number, and you can be sure martial law is next on the plate if people don't stay home off their ski boats or whatever.

I was at the supermarket today. Not too busy at all. Saw a guy wearing rubber gloves but no face mask. He was holding his phone up to his face in his gloved hand.

Do you disagree with Jacinda's decision to allow people living alone to have contact with one other person from outside their household?

I think it is a sensible compromise, and hopefully people will use it in the spirit that was intended.

No,  Aotearoa will not have a Military Government that is reckless to even joke about.

Here is a crazy notion, lets give peace a chance.

Quite right Mike.

I used Martial Law incorrectly. I don’t mean rule by the military at all. Searching for the correct term for a complete lockdown of society by the government using organisations at their disposal.

So lets just call it Level 5.
