205 probable cases in New Zealand now. Six people in hospital - three in Wellington, two in Rotorua, one Waikato.

Seeing as how we haven't done nearly enough and our isolation period hasn't even started, this is good evidence that we're simply not testing enough, or testing well enough. It's just vanishingly unlikely that our growth rate would be declining at this moment.

Not exponential (from an epidemiological point of view) as most cases being reported are still "imported".

Did I hear that right? "Defence force expected to use their power where necessary"?

Yes - and I hope they make their presence visible as soon as possible.

A message needs to get through hard and fast.  We have one chance - we must not blow it.

Anyone found flouting the isolation rules should be immediately arrested and they should amend the Bail Act to remove any presumption of bail for those people.

No, not yet. We have a capable police force.

I guess there are going to be quite a few communities where people are going to have to go cold turkey when they can't get their recreational drugs.  A silver lining in this mess.  Allow many kiwi to turn their lives around and cut the income stream of organised and disorganised crime.

I am not sure that criminal syndicates really care about the rules. They will sadly carry on somehow.

I was at the supermarket today. Not too busy at all. Saw a guy wearing rubber gloves but no face mask. He was holding his phone up to his face in his gloved hand.

Yes, I wonder how amenable people would be to leaving their phone at home? Through unthinking habit, devices could easily be a vector for contamination in either direction.

Lets get real people, it is a quantum leap between the Defence force assisting Police to Martial Law. The NZ army and Navy assisted with Christchurch, Kaikoura and also Napier and this did not mean martial law. I am aware that my comments will now attract the usual sniping but talk of martial law is scare mongering and not at all helpful.

Here is a crazy notion, lets give peace a chance.

I don't think that's particularly "high risk".  Nobody else touches my phone when I'm out.

One thing I haven't seen mentioned is shoes.  Leaving them at the front door (and washing hands etc immediately) when you return from a food shopping trip might be a good idea.  People cough/sneeze, that ends up on floors, you walk on it and then tramp it through your house.  The virus can survive for some time on surfaces.

I've been wondering over the last few days - is this number not a false metric?

The MoH has also said that 22 people have recovered and are clear of Covid-19, so technically we only have 183 cases? Yes, we've had 205, but if we carry on like this the numbers will become meaningless - "NZ has 50,000 cases (well, actually 544, the rest have recovered)"

Surely it should be changed to "active cases", otherwise we are never going to see a decrease in this number - it might stop rising eventually, but it will never drop.

I must be missing something I think.
