With the Mad Butcher now having to shut down govt should buy up all the meat for distribution to those that need it in this time of isolation.

With Mad Butcher shut down I now, see the local super market no longer has any meat on special.

Coincidence???

BTW Mad Butcher had removed all of their specials in the days prior to the lock down.

The issue I have is why are we allowing one group to profit, and not another?

It's not about profit, it's about reducing the attack surfaces for the virus.

Do you really not understand this? Or are you being intentionally obtuse?

Here, here's why: it's NOT ABOUT PROFIT, it's about saving literally tens of thousands of lives. This has moved beyond who will be the big winners and losers, it's a threat to public health. So we're not thinking about who is allowed to make money here, we're optimising for preventing the spread of a deadly infectious disease.

Jesus Christ why does this still need to be explained?

offtopic, but..

while I support your views, however, I think you need to chill out a bit. as you're overreacting over other people's opinion.

QFT. Less people working means less chances to pass the virus. It is not about the companies.

If this is the case, why are supermarkets not running at 0 profit?  This is a time when every other competing business has been forced to close.  How is it in the countries best interest for profiteering at supermarkets to occur?  Surely you agree they should remove their profit?

At the current rate it looks like we'll probably gonna pass 500 cases by Monday. 1,000 by the end of next week.

So if it isn't about profit, why have the supermarkets all put up their prices.  Don't try to abuse me about this, and stop trying to be high and mighty, you don't know anything about me, or my knowledge of this.

What we are allowing to happen is one group of people to be sole suppliers to food in a situation.  If we are trying to reduce the the spread are we forcing the same staff to be in the shops for the next four weeks, are we restricting the same people to go out shopping?

What? Of course the supermarkets are going to profit from this. But for the government, who is setting the rules, that's not an important factor right now. Their focus is ensuring the disease does not spread. That's it.

COVID-19 Is Just The Beginning. Here's Why.

Joe Scott

Can you save us all 24 minutes each and tell us what the main point is?

The main point is it is going to get much worse, will go on for much longer than anyone thinks, and will happen again.
