Maybe they are celebrating? How can we assume that to them it's a bad thing to have measles? Could be some rite of passage into a mature immune system or something?

I know of friends of friends who organize chicken pox parties so that their kids can all get chicken pox.

I didn't realize there was immunization for chickenpox. Must have come in after the 80's as I didn't get it. I is not fun to get if you get a bad case of it, and I still remember having it as a kids. Still have a scar on my face from it, and it is quite a common type of scar.

Our daughter, born in 2017, got her chickenpox booster a couple of weeks ago 👍

Yep we got our kids done a couple years back when it wasn't subsidised.

Great that is now free i.e. included in the std immunisation schedule.

Those that have chickenpox parties are just as bad as the anti-vaxxes.

Sort of: If there is a vaccine option, I fully agree. If there is no vaccine, there are occasions where it isn't a bad idea.

Some diseases can be more dangerous to adults than kids - for instance mumps (I think it is) can make adult males sterile, but male children will be fine.Chicken pox (pre vaccine days) in a pregnant woman could cause birth defects and miscarriage. So by exposing their kids to these things back when there was no/if there isn't currently, a vaccine, then parents are protecting their kids as adults.
