She has been a good and generous friend. I actually know little about QAnon BS. I assume it has to do with right-wing extremist conspiracy theories. She has never gone down that route. She is into magical healing stuff but that is all.

Right-wing extremist - any form of extremism actually - has been successfully using naive people to spread their messages of hate. Your friend needs to be made aware that "QAnon" is not only bullshit but crazy bullshit.

Yeah, you're right. QAnon looks pretty evil. I sort of knew that but never really looked into it precisely because I don't like wasting my time on that kind of stuff. But I just looked it up and glanced at the beginning of the video she linked. The tone sounds a lot like those self-appointed militia groups that roam the mountains in America playing post-apocalyptic armed revolution.

I will have a word with my friend, though I'm sure it won't do any good. This puts me in a tough spot. She is a genuinely kind and generous person who has done a lot for me and I don't know why she is drawn to this kind of stuff. I am loyal to my friends but I will certainly let her know what I think of this.

Please everyone else, leave the matter here. I am not interested in a further debate on this issue or her personal qualities. I just wanted to know more about the claim that the Internet would fail. I assume this is just another conspiracy theory.

gzt: I called 105 police non-urgent yesterday to notify a road safety issue. One of the menu options was reporting covid violations. There was a 15 minute wait for the standard option. The issue was a little more urgent than 15 min so I had to call 111 unfortunately.

I thought 105 and police in general would have excess capacity at this time. Maybe not at all.

No-one has excess capacity at this time. Every single service I have tried or heard about is overwhelmed.

Nice but an interactive graph is better for the 8% of men with colour blindness.

Is there a JS version somewhere?

I agree, usually do choose colour-blind friendly colour palettes but did this very quickly. Order of the key is the same as the lines which should help.

I'll work on an interactive JS version: all done in R with dplyr and ggplot, and can usually switch to interactive version without too much effort.

Trump abdicates responsibilities, letting US states do their own thing. There's very little centralized management.

Of course the virus won't stop at state lines. Anything short of a complete lockdown, a state is as weak as its weakest neighbour.

The Trump bashing is getting a little tiresome in this thread. If you could confine it to the purpose built one (that you are a major contributor to) in the politics forum, that would allow this one to stay on topic.

not true.  My daughter is a nurse and has been asked to take annual leave at Christchurch Public because of excessive staff. Normal holidays are banned at the moment so a lot less staff are on leave now.

I agree but it's hard to separate the world leaders from this subject.

A world that has gone totally insane.

Would *555 have suited your requirements? You didn't say what the "road safety issue" was, so just offering the suggestion.

so, your graphs are still showing an exponential rise in the number of cases in NZ everywhere.

It would be nice at some stage to see the apparently CT cases vs contacts of overseas cases split though at this stage the CT cases are still single digit.

I agree. CT is all that matters, that shows it is spreading, and we don't know from who. Travel related cases we knowingly imported, we accepted that, so those cases aren't part of the NZ spread that is happening internally.

Frankly this advice from Karen about masks increasing risks because you touch your face more often seems nonsensical.

If your mask or the surfaces you're touching are infected, then you're already in a highly contaminated environment, and the main transmission mode is still by respiratory droplet.

82 cases today, still linear, no change to CT

Face masks played down, can possibly be bad, causing more hand to face contact due to discomfort. The mainstays are hand washing, cough/sneeze etiquette and distancing. No mention of gloves. Thats odd.

have they actually asked anyone to work?

FineWine: Not me. I don't know about anyone else. It will be upto the DHB's staffing requirements and other medical area's needing essential medical staffing requirements.

I did state I would prefer to do telemedicine triage due to my computer/program affinity.

Does anyone know who is running, staffing & equipment supplies etc, the testing stations - MoH or the DHB's ?

Another letter from MoH re the 'Retired Doctor & Nursing Mob Call Up'

They are now asking for in-depth details of areas previously worked and speciality skills and knowledge sets we have.

All good so far.

Whilst the difficult we can do immediately, the impossible takes a bit longer. However, miracles you will have to wait for.
